small Busse for whittling carving slicing

Nice pics! Where are those taken?

Great responses so far... keep 'em coning!

Are all cultie handles that thick?

no.... they vary.... some even on same handle material.

Good question, and which of the handles between the Culti, BAD, and SMOG would be the thickest in the fist?

Well, its not necessarily the most in hand that works the best.

Example, the ad or smog would probably fill the hand more than the cult, but

Its how and where that are important.

Try cutting away from yourself (like your suppose to do) like your cutting/whitling a stick.

Well, the straight handle on the cult extends through your entire hand and provides extra leverage to your ring and pinky finger creating alot more cutting power compared to handles that drop towards the butt.

Heres some comparison shots of my slicers which are a Culti, AD and GWLE (thinnest GW made and a really good slicer).

Beautiful collection there! Are there any particular variants of the Culti that excel at the cutting/whittling task? And you say the handles vary. How would one know what handle variations come with which Culti, and which one is in your photos?

Did anyone here realize that this thread contains the most lucid and thoughtful post Trevor has EVER made on here? ;) :D

Damn, T...you are PASSIONATE about the Cultie. :D

Oh, and +1. The Cultie is the best small Busse out there IMO.

I have to disagree with everyone!
If you've ever seen a true whittler's knife.. the handles are bigger...
I'd vote for an AD for optimal control.
Or even a Sus Scrofa.. maybe with the curve removed.
I just can seem to get a grip on cutlessis.... and I don't have big hands. I'm on the large size of medium.
Whittlers usually have need for more than one blade shape anyway
GET THEM ALL!

Great photos T!

thanks Brother:thumbup:

Looking good Chris.....nice snakes:)

Come on.....I resent that;):D

I've made atleast one more:p:D

My favorite small Busse for actual use, by far, is my OJ Warden. The Bear Cub is too small for my mitts, the Cultie tends to twist in my hand, and the BAD has that awful choil that gets in the way for everything. The thin wardens are perfect- my OJ is my favorite small fixed blade. Mine gets a lot of use.

My ranking, in order of preference:

1) OJ Warden
2) Cultellus
3) Bear Cub
4) BAD
5) Scotch Dispenser (never used)

I've tried several times to like my BAD. Every time I take it out and try to use it, the choil gets caught up- on every single cut. It would be a wonderful knife without the choil, but as it is, it stinks for how I use my knives. Apparently, I like to cut right in the area where the pointy bit of the choil is.

It's unfortunate that the best small Busse's (IMO)- the thin Wardens, are so scarce. Those that have them aren't likely to part with them. A good alternative for those looking for something similar is the RAT cutlery RC-3. The RC-3 is kind of a hybrid of a Warden and and Active Duty- a Warden handle with an AD blade on it, except the choil is big enough that you can get your index finger into it, and the radius is mild enough that it doesn't get caught up.

Oh no, I can see where this is all headed... I keep reading posts that once you buy one, you can't stop. I've had my NMFBM for a week - my first Busse. I think I may need them all!!!

How come no love for the Muskrat?

This thread is perfect timing---I just scored a Tan Cultie on the EX!!

The Muskrat is cool--- a little clipped Bowie knife.
I like the Cultie blade a little better.
