I forged this from 1 inch 1085 high carbon steel. The bar stock was pierced for the eye and shaped to fit a standard hatchet handle. Heat treating was done in my Evenheat furnace by bringing it to critical temperature three times to assure a fine grain. The edge was quenched in high speed oil for differential hardness. The edge cannot be sharpened with a file, a stone must be used. I shaped the handle from whit ash.
Handle length is 14 inches, head is 6 inches long and the cutting edge is 3 inches. A simple leather edge cover is included.
