Small EDC fixed blade?

Looking for something I can rely on, I also feel I'd just prefer a fixed blade to a folder. Looking for something under 4 inches, not tactical looking, no black coating on the blade, and has a somewhat concealed sheathe. I get funny looks from people when they see a fixed blade strapped to my belt.

Any suggestions?

Blade steel isn't super important as it's just an edc. And manly for breaking down boxes, cutting ropes and cordage and other medium duty tasks.

My price range would be under $80. Although if my requirements can't be met in that price range then suggest my cheapest option. Thanks

I have to second the Esee Izula. It would fit your needs spot on. Small enough for EDC, but big enough to be used for heavier duty jobs.

Plus their warranty is pretty amazing. If you happen to run full speed into a titanium wall with the knife duct taped to your forehead and it snaps, they'll replace it.

I've been considering something from the Cold Steel Spike series, but I just never got around to it. Maybe something like that would interest you.

I would suggest a Becker BK11 and micarta slabs.
Just pick up some citristrip or jasco and strip it.

Down the road you can add a leather pocket slip (KSF) or custom belt sheath.

Yet another recommendation for the ESEE Izula. Very strong, nice grind, very sharp not bad for heavier outdoors use yet very light weight. I have the Izula 1 and regret not buying the the 2 which comes with scales and has a bigger handle. You might also want to look into after market sheaths since the sheath is pretty sad (IMHO).

Four inches overall or four inch blade?

Recommendations will vary widely depending on the answer.

I bought a Böker Plus Rambler yesterday, it's coming in tomorrow. In my opinion, it's one of the best looking ones out there right now.

BK14. Barely notice it zip-tied to the Wave.

Buck Open Season Small game knife.

The s30v with Dymondwood and a leather sheath looks great, runs right abouts $80
*(even cheaper if you shop around)

The standard 420hc version with thermoplastic handle and nylon sheath will cost around $50

I have the s30v version and I must say it's one of the better factory sheaths I've encountered. It doesn't look tactical at all, the wood actually gives it a bit of more refined look, and the finger choil and curved handle are great for controlled cuts. It's one of my favorite edc fixed blades, and it's compact size as well as the way the sheath hangs, whenever I want to carry it a little more inconspicuous like, makes it easy to stuff in my pocket while still on my belt.

If you don't mind 440C steel, ESEE Izula "Stainless Steel" Model. Otherwise, just grab a standard ESEE Izula and use a paint stripper to remove the black coating. If you want handles, you can order scales in every color of the rainbow, however I recommend wrapping the handle in paracord. There are about a dozen different ways to do it, and you learn about and bond to your knife in the process. As for the sheath, spring for an Armatus Carry Architect with the tuckable IWB clip. You can order the entire Izula kit for around $80. The stock sheath isn't horrible.

If you don't mind D2 steel, the Becker BK24 is a fine tool, as is the BK14 if you don't mind the black coating. The BK14 and 24 are the result of a collaboration between BK&T and ESEE. It's the BK11's blade with an Izula handle. VERY sexy, and mighty useful.

The BK-14 with micarta handles is a nice edc type blade. Have the BK-24 and could never get it as sharp as I would like. I believe it's discontinued now.

When I first saw this thread, I immediately thought of a Bob Dozier blade, but they exceed the budget. If I edc a fixed blade, it will be a small Dozier.
