small edc folder advice

The standard Dozier Hunter is 3" long, but there is a small version at 2.25"

EDIT: just saw this had already been addressed. Guess I should hit the refresh button once in a while.

i've got the ZT0350, love it. but it counts as medium-to-large for me, folder-wise.

I was going to give another +1 to the 0350 but you've got it. If you want a cheap good bang for the buck knife, look at the Ontario rat folders. They are imported but cheap ($30) and fairly durable. I think they are AUS8 ss.

Plus if u lose it, lend it out, etc..who cares it was $30.

Wait, I thought the dozier folders were a 3in blade?

This whole time I've been looking for a 2.5-2.75in thin and light knife, and have kept glossing over that one because I thought the blade was too long.

Are we sure on that?

Might start looking at a coyote brown one then.

Maybe 3 inches for the total length of blade, but 2.75" sharpened edge.

Here it is next to a Delica for comparison.

Sweet man, thanks for the photo, I really appreciate it. Like I said, I might start looking into one (and a matching mini for my nephew who is approaching knife age).

Also, to the OP, even though these aren't KaBars, they are some of the blades I was looking into for a cheap, semi-good looking office carry knife (and excluding the persistence and the vantage you already have).

Boker Trance (2.75in blade, ~$30)
CRKT Drifter (2.88in blade, ~$20)
CRKT Pazoda (2.625in blade, ~$20)
Kershaw EnerG (2.75in blade, ~$50)
Kershaw Chill (3in blade, ~$20)
Kershaw Skyline(3 1/8in blade, ~$35)
Kershaw Zing(3in blade, ~$30)
Buck Lux(2.5in? blade, ~$40)

Seriously, I wish there were more blades out there in the 2.5-3in range.

Never held a spiderco I didn't like.

TDI is a good concept knife. They just need to work out the kinks. It's a tertiary mind set of knife so weight played a big part around it's problems.

Doziers are very good knives. Super easy to maintain and spear point was one of my first loves. But tend to feel cheap sometimes. (Phat bob excluded, never held one)

Leatherman Skeletool CX can't be beat. When I bought that I got rid of most all my folders. Very sturdy lightweight multitool. I'm not in love with liner locks but any thing else would be ridiculous.

Although I admit to not having much love for folders.

For office carry I would agree with one of the doghead models too. Slippie or lockback. My fav small blade is a spyderco dragonfly, love that thing.

great ideas all-around, thanks!

moose - i've got the ZT0350, love it. but it counts as medium-to-large for me, folder-wise. i need small, this is for my pocket while i'm at work. i'm a veterinarian. little old ladies with blue hair and pomeranians are seriously unimpressed by knives hanging out of pockets. so this one needs to be a size down (or two) from that. well, either that or my professional liability insurance needs to be updated in the 'inducement of cardiac arrest in little old ladies' category.

if it helps, off-the-top-of-my-head knives i usually grab for work: spyderco ambitious (and sometimes the persistence), spyderco dragonfly, buck vantage pro small (deep carry clip is awesome btw), sebenza insingo small, benchmade mini-griptilian, cheapo S&W SWAT small (i pound on this knife and it just keeps taking it. i keep trying to do something to ruin it b/c i'm kind o' embarrassed i have it, but it just keeps on motoring).

thanks again, all!

--kind of grooving on the FIN drop point today.....

your situation calls for deep concealment, and a smallish knife... ???

enter: spyderco chaparral :D I have a review on the knife, mine sucks but apparently I'm in the minority.. still love the knife, just got a lemon is all..

Eka compact or swede 90
Dozier folder (lightweight)
spyderco UKPK
dog's head
Fallkniven TreKronor or U series
Buck: Bantam, Colleague, Nobleman

Heh I am probably in the minority, but in my office/customer related job i edc a wenger standard issue in my left pocket and a case mini-trapper in CV in my right pocket

lots of tools, and lots of cutting and they arent very big at all
just my 2 cents

Ditto. Although I prefer Victorinox. The Hiker model is my favorite. Great for the office, warehouse , or woods. An awesome tool. Everyone needs to carry a SAK.

Unless by your personal preference it has to be a locking one hand opener.

nope, no requirements re: blade style. i likes me the knives. all of 'em.
i do lean locking 1-blade knife for work/office carry, but that's just a tendency, not a rule.

so far, this thread has cost me a spyderco chaparral and a kabar fin, both on the way. and i'm looking at the fallknivens.
i love/hate BF.

+1 for the Dozier folder. Don't even notice it in my pocket, it's so light weight.

Hey guys I have been lurking around the Becker forum for quite a while now but have yet to post anything. I figured I would chime in because I finally have something to say and found the motivation to take some pictures (I know the beckerheads demand photos). So here is my informal introduction as well as a suggestion as to a good small edc folder.
Most of the time I edc my Eskabar (the one in the pictures) however there are times when I don’t want to have a something as noticeable at a fixed blade in a sheath hanging off of my hip. When I’m looking for something a little more discrete I usually reach for my Case Sodbuster JE in CV. It really is a solid little knife. The Jr. is a nice looking knife in my opinion, the white/light yellow handles are classy looking and not as threatening to non knife people. I also love how the blade on the CV version forms a nice patina over time. That’s just my two cents though :)

sorry bro, but I'll bet a dollar to a day old donut you will love it.. just don't go using it as a scalpel on one of your patients :D
please let me know how yours turns out..
here's my shoddy review on mine.. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/895629-Spyderco-Chaparral

welcome to the forums - good intro and I really like the palm scales on your esky -- nice, clean job you did there.

Thanks 1066vic, they are the first set of scales I've ever made. To be honest I have no idea what kind of wood it is. All I know is it was off an old chair I found in my parents barn. They were fun to make nonetheless!

got the Ka-Bar Fin and the Spyderco Chaparral in today. one winner, one not so much.

size of the Chaparall is perfect. thanks for the idea, rob.
fit and finish - mine looks good. centered, good grind, sharp. stiff opening and very stiff lock though. that's a first for me on a spyderco. i'll take it apart, lube it, see if that loosens it up for me sometime in the next week or so. thanks for the heads up, this is going to be a good one.

clich - i like the Fin, but it's a little bigger than i thought it was going to be. more like a good everyday stick-it-in-my-jeans-when-i'm-not-at-work-sized-knife than vs the small office carry i'm looking for. at least for me. don't get me wrong - i like it, well made liner lock for under $50, but i've already got 9 bijillion knives that size, plus the front finger guard is a little sharp and uncomfortable for my oversize hands. i could sand it down to a more rounded guard, but then i would have 9 bijillion and 1 knives that size. i like it, glad i ordered it and tested it out, just not the right size for me. probably be throwing that one up on the exchange soon.

i'm not really a case/friction folder carrier, but i may be trying that kabar dog's head next (or a fallkniven folder).

thanks again for all the ideas, gentlemen.
