Small EDC/Neck knife recommendations

I actually think I have settled on a neck knife: an Alan Folts Minimalist. I am going to scour the forums for one in the configuration I want, or maybe contact Alan directly. Anyone have any experience, positive or negative, with this blade?

If you're not sure, you can get the CRKT version at many large sporting goods stores for $30. Not much lost if you don't like the design.

If you don't mind relying on the fob(?) thingie to help get a full grip . The CRKT versions seem very popular .

I'll vote for the Survive Necker(not 2). I tried a lanyard/FOB for it but the lump was too obvious under a T shirt. I don't understand all the "neckers" with handles.

Tried paracord with a breakaway connection but found paracord is to noticeable. The chain off of dog tags works well.

The skimpy handle works OK if you grip the hole well and it actually performs well in mundane cutting tasks.
I think neck carry isn't for me though, just not used to it. The Necker does seem to disappear after a few minutes of being worn.

Personally I have found the handle on the minimalist really uncomfortable and I have small hands, I just dislike the bits between my fingers. I like his SPEW model alot tho.

On the other hand, one reason they're probably popular is because... good luck finding the custom ones. I've been looking for a non-kirinite handled stainless bowie Minimalist forever.

Thanks, I may have to get my hands on a CRKT model to try out first.

Ka bar tdi. Concealable, affordable, and devastating if you're on the wrong end of it...

Also under 2.5 inch blade makes it legal to carry everywhere that I know...

I have always liked the neck knives of DW Childress, he goes by Duck Childress, some different steels and handle materials. I started a thread on Bird and trout knives that had a lot of smaller blades, not necessarily for hunting, but perfect for smaller tasks. I also carried a few smaller knives in a KSF pocket sheath.

If you can find one, the BM Snody Activator 210 or 210TK are fantastic little neck knives.

Look up a knfe called Le Duck. I think it will be exactly what you are looking for. It is inexpensive. The only thing that diesn't match yor criteria is the blade steel is only 8cr13mov which I think is way underrated anyway.

Still the design fits your intended use perfectly.

That Les George Sabot looks very nice too. La Griffe is a great knife in that style but the blade is a bit thin for hard use. It is more of an SD knife.

Kabar Snake Charmer or that little Strider neck knife that looks alot like the Sabot are up your alley too.

I've been thinking about this, a neck knife seems to do away with a significant amount of the utility of a folder. If the sheath is facing down (leather), it's a two hand 'open' though you can put it back one handed. If it's kydex then it's one hand 'open' but two hand replace. I'm not sure of the advantages over a OHO folder?

I should note that I have an L.T. Wright Patriot which would be perfect for the task, just not sure of what the advantages would be.

1. Speed of deployment typically trumps speed of sheathing/closure in importance.
2. You can sheath a necker in a Kydex sheath with one hand. Partially insert blade, tilt assembly, push :)
3. Sheathing a necker with two hands is faster than closing a folder and then pocketing it.

In reference to your points, 1 would only apply to kydex correct? Otherwise you don't have that speed trying to get the knife out of a leather upright holster using two hands? 2 would be knife size specific, ok for a tiny knife, not for a fuller sized handle with 2" of blade (like my Patriot) as you wouldn't be able to tilt it as easily? Not sure about 3, I'd assume it would be a wash? Especially if you're closing the folding knife next to your pocket with something like a frame or liner lock which is exceptionally fast to close.

1. Why not flip the leather assembly under deployment and pull down with one hand?

2. Works with any reasonably sized necker. I can one hand sheath a 3.5" Pro Soldier. You can too.

3. But what if the knife is closer to the sheath? For the sake of parity, let us assume that the knife is equidistant to the pocket and the sheath. In the third scenario above, I offered a best case pocket dump. Worst case would be a two-handed reclip. Middle ground, a one-handed reclip. Frame/liner locks exceptionally fast? Fast, yes. Faster than a free dropping Axis or compression with a wrist flick? Probably not.
