hey guys,
Ive been considering getting a new EDC knife, I currently carry a Kershaw Chive (pink) and I love it except for the fact that I have found when opening numerous boxes at a time my grip doesn't feel secure enough on such a small handle. I am completely in love with the purple spyderco delica but I think I have come to the conclusion with dumb girly pants it just will not fit, sadly! ive been considering a spyderco dragonfly, cricket or possibly just upgrading to a Kershaw scallion or cryo. Any suggestions or input is great! :)

Spyderco ladybug? The delica is a pretty slim knife. You should check one out in person before writing it off.

The ladybug is smaller than my chive I believe, thank you though. I did hear the delica was slim, also the closest thing to a knife store around here is big 5 haha so sadly I don't think I'll get to see it in person before buying a knife/:

Here are some pics of some of the ones mentioned next to a Chive, for size comparison.

The Delica is pretty thin, but it does have a much larger footprint in pocket when closed. The Dragonfly has the same blade length as the Chive, but it has a significantly longer handle. It is also pretty thin (about the same as the Chive), but it is also has a noticeably larger footprint. The Leek might be worth a look. It is as thin as the Chive and only has a marginally larger footprint in pocket.

My top two picks for you would probably be the Leek or Dragonfly.

Some size measurements, namely approximate pocket footprint and overall thickness (handle + blade).

Chive: 0.28" thick, ~3 sq-in footprint (1" x 3")
Scallion: 0.41" thick, ~3.5 sq-in footprint (1" x 3.5")
Cryo: 0.38" thick, ~6 sq-in footprint (1.5" x 4")
Leek: 0.32" thick, ~4 sq-in footprint (1" x 4")
Skyline: 0.4" thick, ~4.5 sq-in footprint (1" x 4.5")
Ladybug: 0.31" thick, ~2.5 sq-in footprint (1" x 2.5")
Dragonfly: 0.34" thick, ~5.25 sq-in footprint (1.5" x 3.5")
Chaparral: 0.35" thick, ~6 sq-in footprint (1.5" x 4")
Caly3: 0.35" thick, ~6.75 sq-in footprint (1.5" x 4.5")
Delica4: 0.38" thick, ~6.75 sq-in footprint (1.5" x 4.5")

True thank you for all the input! I love the leek and I could get in the rainbow TI but my only concern about the leek is the incredibly thin tip. I would be scared to break off the tip! Ugh finding the perfect pocket knife is so hard! There's no such thing I suppose!

The tip on the Leek is tougher than it looks. Short of prying with it or dropping it tip-first onto a hard surface, it should hold up quite well. I've used my CB Leek quite a bit for opening packaging (boxes, blister packs), nylon cable ties, and plastic/nylon pallet straps with no issues. Worst case, if you do manage break the tip off, you can always grind it into a mini-drop point tip, or even a sheepsfoot profile (if you want to preserve more tip strength). Also, you can ship it in to Kershaw, and for $10, they'll replace the blade with a new one.

Kershaw Ember.

I've been looking at that one too. It looks like a cool little knife. Specs put it at the same size as the Chive though, so if that was too small, the Ember may be as well.

I gave my girlfriend an Dragonfly in H1 and she loves it. Thin and easy to pocket, light and they feel much better in hand then the profile leads you to believe.
Although if your looking for confident in hand feel the Delica steps it up with the larger handle and provides that just that much more of a cutting edge.

Kershaw Scallion or Leek, in pink, purple, or rainbow
(In case you haven't seen them - this is a rainbow Leek)

Ok so I guess the question is now, is the frn on the dragonfly feel cheapish? I love the kershaw ken onion designs so I might just opt for a rainbow kershaw scallion with a factory blem? Much cheaper on eBay than Amazon. Still not sure though thank you guys for all the help!

I have the Scallion and the Leek, and both would serve you well. You won't break the tip on the Leek.

I chose both of these over Spyderco options because the blade spine doesn't have to protrude so far from the handle in order to accommodate a big thumbhole. I like the flipper action of both Kershaws as well.

Funny you mention a "cheap" feel on the frn. I thought this as well, and to me it does feel rather on the cheap side. Oh, it will more than likely hold up to anything I could throw at it, but the "feel" is one of those aspects that makes or breaks a knife for me.

Personally I don't mind the FRN because that bi-directional texturing really locks the knife in hand. If you don't like the feel or idea of plastic then the FRN handles will probably not be your thing. They do have a G10 version but at more cost and weight. If you could try them in hand before purchasing you'll know. Like Velitrius said the overall "feel" of the knife will be the deciding factor.

you mentioned pink purple and girly pants. So I do have to ask are you just looking for a good knife on the smaller side or is it important to have a knife that one could easily associate with femininity? And is price and concern? And are there any features that are a must or a must not?

I like the feel that Spyderco puts on the FRN handles on the Dragonfly (and Delica, and Endura, and Stretch). They have a sort of matte finish/feel to them.

FRN? Consider it to be the equivalent of the polymer in a Glock (or HK, SIG, S&W, whatever). It's light but it's strong. It will probably live longer than you will and it will take more punishment than most humans while still surviving.

My simple answer: just get the Dragonfly. It's the definition of the Little Big Knife.

Truth. The Dfly is a winner all around. Plenty of handle, small, light, pick your steel, lots of colors. Perfect size for EDC.

Awesome thanks guys I'm going to go with the dragonfly. Anywhere specific I should order it from? I've always ordered off amazon but I'll try anywhere anyone sees fit for a better deal or more trust in a site(:
