Small edc woods blade

If I was still tromping around in the woods I'd have to give LT Wright and BF's own Horsewright Horsewright a serious look. Especially one of Horsewright's models with the front-carry angled sheath. I always liked carrying things sort of cross draw in the woods as you can pretty much access them from most any position.

If you are tempted to carry an AG Russell Woodswalker, I'd suggest a good paring knife first.

I just got this all rounder. 4mm x 4" blade of O2 steel. This might be over your budget at $370 but it sure is a stout and slicey beauty.

I'll also add a rec for LT Wright. You'll find a similar or smaller model for less than half of the above in 01 tool steel.

Another thought is a puukko.

I use the crkt hunt n fisch. 3" blade, comes with horizontal sheath. Works well for me. Is not an expensive item.

Another vote for this. It's not the best knife in the world but it hits a great balance of characteristics and price that make it a really nice package.

Thanks for the recommendation Eli Chaps Eli Chaps .

I do specialize in small fixed blades for horizontal crossdraw carry. My own EDC, a stainless Gordo:

I have several different style of sheaths I make that will carry this way. A customer in FL trying on her new knife and sheath with her new chaps we made her too. This is a pancake sheath.

A friends California Coyote in a flower carved pancake sheath on one of our water buffalo leather belts. Our stuff will take some wear and tear. many folks really like the pancake sheath because it fits in so tight against the body.

As ranchers besides the durability required of our product it must be secure and unobtrusive. My EDC above my left front pocket in a Gordo sheath.

Its gotta be out of the way, safe and secure yet easy to get to when needed whether roping:

Or getting down to do the groundwork on a calf, it can't be in the way.

A Coyote with a Slotted sheath. A Slotted sheath is very versatile and can be worn 360 degrees on a belt. This is handy if a guy wants to carry a pistol on occasion ya can just move your knife around. The Slotted sheath goes under the belt:

There are some killer small custom blades being posted in the makers market that are about the same or less than some of the knives posted. The Eastern European makers are posting some very nice, well priced fixed blades in particular. Check out Daado and Tony Mont. --KV

Agreed. Gollik has also caught my eye.

I like my Esee JG3.

My two favorite smaller knives are the LT Wright Frontier Valley and the Esee Izula 2. You would have to get a different sheath for the Frontier Valley though.

I frequently carry a Lionsteel M1 and love it... I have both the black G10 and Santos Wood scales. For me, it is the perfect size and great steel (M390) to boot. The sheath is vertical only but carries well and also is slim enough for very comfortable front pocket carry. I may have one of the sheath makers here fit me up for a cross draw or horizontal sometime soon.

Why do you say that? I had had literally dozens of paring knives and never had one with better heat treat or edge holding at a lower price. I really like the Woodswalker I just don't use it like I used to, I have been gravitating to larger handles over the last few years.

I gave my woodswalker away. Later bought a GEC paring knife. I like the GEC better.
