Had an old file laying around (Black Diamond USA?) I dont know files well, anyway I was tempering a knife and decided to throw the file in.

I happy with it, but any suggestions are welcome, again dont hold back.

The handle is whitetail deer, gaurd is 52100, with a stainless pin. The sheath is part of an old one I had started on and my wife stitched it up, (Im no sheathmaker:))

This is a little fella, I put one of my favorite EDC's, the Victorinox in the shot for scale. Im going to give this one to my friend Tracy who has been teaching me.

wow that is a cool lookin knife! but that thing IS small isnt it! is what's the OAL? 6"?

Jason

yeah just over, about 6 1/2"
Ive got the rest of the file, Im thinking about making another for myself with a matching Bowie to carry during my cowboy action shooting. This one would be like a vest or boot knife.

Thanks for the comments

That's a cool little blade, foxbat! Did you just temper the hardened file and make it from there, or did you anneal it to grind, etc. and then re-heat treat? I've got some old files laying around that I may play with at some point.

I just tempered it from the file, put it in with another knife just to see how it would temper. It came out a real nice straw yellow. I did one once before and went through the whole process, anneal, grind, harden, temper. I couldnt tell a bit of difference when I was grinding this one. I didnt test the Rc before and after though, wish I did.

Thanks for the compliment.
