I had some empty prescription bottles that I had saved; decide to turn them into small fire kits. Nothing fancy, just 12 waterproof matches, strike strip, and a little over 2” of firestick. The large paperclip in to keep the extra flap tight to the strike strip, I didn’t want the matches sliding up and down the exposed strip (probably not a problem, but why not). I wouldn’t call the bottles 100% waterproof, but they should keep everything dry if I were to fall into some water or it starts to rain heavily.

I should have a couple more bottles soon (I go through a lot of allergy medicine this time of year) and I plan on making one into a small fishing kit:thumbup:

To waterproof it, shoot a line of silicone around the lip of the bottle and then twist the cap on it.

I'm no longer much of a fan of matches. The firestick works very good though, but still not quite as good as vasoline coated cotton balls. I like the cotton-make-up remover pads or facial pads the best. I'd stuff that little packet with a bit more firestick and cotton balls and carry it with a firesteel. The firesteel/striker can just be attached to the outside with an elastic band.

If you look around for diamond strike anywhere matches - you can rid yourself of the paper clip and the striker - it would make for MORE matches.

I would wager if you cut a small circle of neoprene or foam and placed it in the cap it would seal water tight as well. ;)

Good use for stuff you already had!
