I'm casually looking for a small not overly expensive fixed blade for EDC. I'd like something conservative so that I can pull it out in public without having people pass out in shock. Any recommendations? Oh yeah, I also perfer stainless to carbon steel.

Check out the Fallkniven WM1. VG-10 steel. Great design!

I carry a Bob Dozier Arkansas Traveler (2 7/8" blade) with a horizontal cross-draw Kydex sheath. Sheath is very small and holds knife tight to my body. I usually don't even notice I am wearing it. I carry others but this is the main one.

I also just bought a Blackhawk Crucible FB. I don't like the sheath that comes with it but love the knife. I'll be getting a custom horizontal cross-draw for this baby too. This is a "big" 3.2" knife. Grip is incredibly secure.

Neither of these is cheap but they are awesome. They are also very different it size and feel but both up to any task.

I was in the same boat, I was thinking of a Benchmade 210, or a Charles May. I love the Charles may but I did not want to wait, so I got the 210, I love it. It is a neck knife but I wrapped the cord and sheath around my belt horizontaliy. So it rides kind of like a belt buckle that is towards my right hip, its very comphy. This reminds me a Charles May is on my to get list, right after I get a ZT 301 or 302.

I carry the blackhawk Kalista pretty often with the IWB loop thats comes with it. I also neck carry a spyderco ronin daily. I would also have to recomend the rat-3 for heavier use

I did a pass around with a mid tech Razel. I thought that was a great edc. Looks like a tool, not a "tactical" works great too. Very sturdy, but smaller than I thought it would be .

I carry an AG Russell Hunters Scalpel. Very inexpensive, stainless steel, locking hard plastic sheath, lanyard, small enough for pocket carry so no one will see it unless you take it out.

I strongly recommend a skeletonized one if you really want to EDC a fixed blade. Candidates include emerson lagriffe, spyderco spot, and hideaway. You will appreciate their flatness when you carry one around for a long time or passing by the LEOs.

A new Spyderco's Perrin Street Beat in VG-10, full tang, Micarta handles.
A custom quality.
Comes incredibly sharp. A design is more towards SD.

Another one for SD is CRKT Ryan Plan B.

WM-1 is designed for utility. Also an excellent knife.

Grohmann #3! Very good knife, low profile...if anyone asks, tell 'em it's a steak knife!:D

Cheers!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I normally carry a AO folder, but I thing a Fixed blade would work for me better. I just hate to carry one because of the image that it presents. People seem to view them as a weapon, and not a tool, that is why I shy away from a tactical style knife. I like the Groham, and the little Russel knife so far.

posted this in the back pocket fixed blade thread but thought it might be appropriate here too:
Bark River Mikro Canadian, 5 3/8" in the sheath, this one has ivory handles with mosaic pins, about $70.
