Small fixed blade in pocket sheath?

When I carry a fixed blade as an EDC, I carry a Dozier K42 Personal in Bob's horizontal belt sheath which means I don't add more stuff to my already heavily used pockets. I have a pocket sheath for a large GEC slipjoint that I am trying to use to replace my beloved SAK.

I get it but this is not something *I'd* do. I really don't see the point or benefit. As I'd said, I like fixed knives, especially for serious work outdoors but not to carry in town or to work. There are few circumstances I can think of that carrying a fixed blade knife vs. folder (which will probably have a larger working blade) for light duty daily tasks makes any sense to me. Then again, I pocket carry my Ruger LCP so what do I know?

I agree. Fall wrong, bust the blade through the sheath, and... :(

My favorite edc for when I'm not at work is an Izula and Victorinox Spirit X in an Adirondack sheath. I usually carry it in my right rear pocket, but it rides well in right front too.

I have gone through a bunch of small fixed blades and a couple of carrying options, and this is the best for me.

I would contact Alan Davis and let him fix you one the way you want it. I am not a fixed blade fan but that edc he made for me the way I wanted it is just AWESOME!!!! If you would like to see a pic email me and I will send you some. Good Luck! Kevin :D

I like the idea, but in the end you get a lot less blade for the pocket space... cleaning and oiling isn't an issue and I generally am not scared to get my knives dirty. I also use my folders hard and have no issue with it being "already broken".

fixed blade only has benefits for me in two ways. REALLY dirty work, like submerging a knife in mud to cut something or perhaps preparing raw meat, or in use that will shock the lock, like batoning or chopping.

other than that, my carbon steel pocket knife just gets wiped on my jeans, occasionally the pivot is oiled every couple months, and I'll rinse it after food use...

this is essentially the same exact maintenance I would give to a fb, minus the fifteen seconds I spend once a year to oil the pivot...

I love the concept. Living in CA is a problem with fixed blades though. There is something about the simplicity (no moving parts) that is appealing.

This, and the fact that my hands don't perform finer movements like they used to, is the attraction to smaller FBs for me. I've also discovered that a smaller blade is fully capable of meeting my needs, and better in some circumstances at work because it's easier to maneuver in tight spaces.

Old thread, but thought I’d chime in. I’ve been carrying my BK14 like this for nearly a year and I can't imagine going back to a folder. I carry this in my right front pocket with the edge facing in towards the left. I hook my finger around the lanyard to draw the knife. When re-sheathing I choke up on the handle and lay my index finger down along the side of the blade just covering the tip so I can guide it back into the sheath (which has a slightly flared opening) At first this was a little awkward but didn't take long to be just as fast as a folder to draw and re-sheath. I also love the looks I get from people when I pull a fixed blade out of my pocket, or put it back for that matter.

I have several 3" fixed by G.L. Drew that have a small sheath that can be pocket-carried or from your belt in your hip pocket. I also have a small Bark River fixed with 3" blade which is quite beautiful.

I used to have some nylon sheathed cheap fixed blade that attached to the belt and hung into the pocket. Best set up I ever had and took up no more room than a folder. Being a cheapy the knife sucked too bad to use, but I wish I couod find something quality with a similar set up. I can't spare a full pocket.

I pocket carry my Tops Ferret in the sturdy and sleek kydex sheath it came with. I love it. It's with me everyday and very comfortable. I've used it to help cut things publicly and haven't had anyone faint or scream in horror so I don't think stigma is there for a small fixed blade. I see no benefit to a folder and only use fixed blades. Once you get a small fixed blade and pocket carry it, you'll be hooked.
