howdy guys,
i am looking for a small fix blade knive that can be carried in a pocket, much like a regular pocket knive with a clip, i would like a kydex sheath, blade length around 3 inches or so, any seggustions??

Rat Cutlery is producing a neck knife that should be perfect. Check out the thread in the Rat forum.

I think blackjack knives makes a small knife with a back pocket sheath that you might like

Here is a recent entry - the Buck 005GYS. It's 3" modified skinner-style blade of 420HC is exceptionally sharp - and highly capable. Sheathed in it's Kydex/nylon sheath, it can ride horizontally on your belt or nearly vertically in deep upper front cargo pants pockets (Just under 8" from sheath tip to handle top.). Great handle - in a charcoal wood. I got mine for $55 inc s/h about a month or two back, as I was tired of awaiting it's rosewood/brass/154CM sibling's release. It is hitting the mail order sites now - at ~$85 + s/h - and perhaps not to my liking solely due to the grooved handle sides (I don't like checkered wood grips on my revolvers, either!).

Another choice is the Bark River 'Huntsman', rated at 3.125", but I get a total sharp edge less than 3". Heavily made - at .187" of convex ground A-2 - and supplied in a proper leather belt sheath, it will fit in the KSF Leather Pocket Sheath with a firesteel or small flashlight. It drops into the same cargo pants pockets - a bit lower - 7.25" OAL. Stowed in it's supplied leather, it is <7.5" OAL. Great knife, but even in the Micarta handles it will run about what the two Buck 005 models do combined - more in fancier handles.

Finally, consider a Buck 102 - great little 4" 420HC blade. At 8.5", it is a problem keeping my 102BR version's brass pommel out of sight in those cargo pants. Perhaps taking that belt loop - and it's single rivet - off will help. An uncannily handy knife - great for some impromptu whittling - maybe up to a 3-man hiker tent's stakes, at most. Supposedly a great small game knife, too, although I haven't cut up a sandwich with mine - mostly whittling. The 102 runs ~$40 with Al fg/pommel & black phenolic handle - the 102BR is ~$55 mail order, with brass and rosewood - and leather sheath. Pretty little knife.

Tops UTE 01 and UTE 02 it has a 3" blade in 1095 with micra haddle. I have one and it is really tough and a great little knife. It comes with a kydex sheath and i found one for about $65.00 online.

Blind Horse Knife Company also makes some great little knives and you can not beat their price. I have one coming to me right now. (LG Workhorse)

lot of good options guys, i was having a hard time finding what i wanted, but you all have hit the nail on the head, thanks much dan

This might be to long for your use, but look at the Sog seal pup. I have one and its awesome. Plus it has a kydex sheath that clips around your belt vertical or horizontal, or the clip can be removed. It fits in my pocket and the sheath has enough pressure so the knife will not accidently pop out.

Maybe not the best prices but a good view of all of the seal series.

Hope this helps

By the way Stanz either that Buck knife is extremely large or you have a small train track in your backyard.

how is bark rivers quality? i havent heard a lot about them. i just orderd a rainshadow custom, i havent got it yet, but i cant wait, steve is a great guy to work with, and his knives are impeccable, i mean perfict. i would be willing to pay 3x what he wants for his knives. the knive i orderd is a drop point, with black mycarta, mosaic pins, lanyard loop, and more, everything i wanted he was willing to do. it is a hunting knive tho, not an edc. what im looking for is a small sheath knive, to carry in a pocket. i want a fixed blade because, it is a backup for my ccw, and when stressed hands often forget small motor skills, like opining my benchmade mini griptillian that i am carring now. its pretty simple to draw and cut someone off my ccw with a fixed blade, i guess one less movement of oping a blade can be a lifesaver. but that bark river sure looks good. thanks for the info guys.

It's absolutely A1 Quality. I have three of their products, and each gets a huge Thumbs Up from me.

For a pocket-sized fixed blade, here's what I carry, the AG Russell Hunters Scalpel. It's been discontinued, but a new updated version is in the works. Approximate price, $20.
