Small fixed blade to add to EDC backpack (exterior) carry suggestions?

Spyderco SPOT. its small, low profile. Short blade, good grip with finger hole=very powerful cutting force. Discontinued. Very underrated blade. I'm getting another .

I understand where your coming from. A belt knife is not accessable because of the waist strap. I use a folder clipped into my pant cargo pocket so it's always accessable wether I'm sitting, standing or wearing a backpack.

I wouldn't recommend a tactical looking knife on your shoulder strap.

Benchmade has a yellow handle knife for this type of carry but I don't remember it's name. It looks "first aid-ish".

Tried "Plastidip" on my SPOT. Works great and can be had in many colors. Found it in Lowes. You can make the grip as thick or as thin as you want

Collecter, is this the one you're thinking of? Benchmade Model 100SH2O Water / Rescue

Weight is my primary concern when picking backpacking gear. I suggest you at least look at the AG Russell Hunter's Scalpel. Very light, locking sheath, can be worn with a clip or lanyard, and at $20 it's nearly painless to replace if lost.

The Hunter's Scalpel large enough for anything I've ever needed a knife for while backpacking. But there are larger versions of the same design available too.

Personally, I carry an Opinel for backpacking/hiking, but you requested fixed blade recommendations.

Good Luck in your search. Keep in mind, there is no single 'perfect' knife, so buy several. :)

Camillus CqB11
or
Gerber Yari

both good, cheap, effective cutters with kydex sheaths small enough for functional inverted carry.
but not real sheeple fiendly.
I dont think this is the best way to carry a knife...

Camillus CUDA Arclite Neck Knife. 6 7/8" overall. 3 1/4" blade. One piece 420HC stainless construction. Black kydex sheath with neck chain.

Or, for "sheeple-friendly", the flag version:

None costs more than $25. The basic version is less than $20.

spyderco fred perrin, or, lum fixed blade (not the tanto). sharp, flat grind and can double up as a camp kitchen knife.

Becker Necker should meet your needs. Black, good tie down potential, light enough and the price is in your ballpark.

How 'bout the Benchmade/Snody 210 Activator?

210 Activator

2.1" blade, very friendly looking, great steel, I've handled one, its a great little knife.

Well...have decided on the Simonich Bitterroot. I am in negotiations as we speak, but I should get it. I am very excited about it and will give you my assessment of my decision after I receive it. Thank you folks VERY much for you input and suggestions. I really appreciate it.

It is SO nice to know that you folks help me so much in spending my money!

Esav Benyamin, That might be it but I'm remembering it with a plain edge. Is there a smaller one with pain edge? I don't see a plain edge version on Benchmade's website.

I had the Camillus Cuda but found it uncomfortable to use and finaly decided on the Becker Necker. Same price but a lot more knife and more controlable, IMO.

The CRKT fixed Falcon? A cheap, stubby, sheeple friendly knife at a great price. Or a CRKT K-AT? That has more carry options, and quite a sturdy blade. Nice knife. But the Arclite really is a terrific little knife. I know it doesn't get much respect around here because its so cheap, but, hell, its one of my favourite knives.

Cheers, Acolyte.

I'd vote for the B.R.K.&T Mini or Micro, but you would have to get a after market Kydex sheath. The Mini at 60.99 and the Micro at 52.99 should allow you to stay in your budget

BRKT Highland from A.G. Russel with custom sheath: Should run you right around $75
