I am LEO and need input on a small fixed blade knife that I can carry horizontally on my belt. The purpose would be to discourage someone trying to get my gun. Only on a SHTF situation of course!

He does not, I think he posts on some other one I found w/ google... I do know you can get his knives through robertsoncustomcutlery.com seemed to be the only place I found them.

I really like the look of them, but given the izula's size already fills my small fixed needs, I can't justify the purchase... yet...

Definitely check the the ESEE Izula, one of the handiest blades I have., there are even slabs available for the handle now too for around 15 bucks

Ok... here is one of those posts where I completely stray from what the OP says he wanted.... but the Ka-Bar TDI knife is made for duty carry, and it is quite popular around these parts as a weak-hand last chance type weapon. The grip afforded by the blade angle makes it easy to manipulate 'dumb-handed'.

i also suggest the ESEE Izula.. it's a fabulous knife... mine see's a lot of use..

the TOPS Shango, designed by our very own Joezilla, is also a handy little knife..

or possibly something small from Bark River Knife and Tool...:) there are a lot of makers here on the forums too, that make awesome knives.. Fiddleback, Scott Gossman, Koyote, JK knives and Ray Laconico just to name a few..

whats the budget?

whats your preferences? (do you want doe it all knife, or do you want plain tactical?)

For do it all IZULA looks nice

Personaly for me for back up I prefer push daggers, "discouraging" would be more intuitive when you have to punch, which you are more used to if you are not trained with knives. Even though I got some training with edged weapons I still prefer push dagger design just in case my mind goes numb during stress.

Just generally speaking for combat, double edged dagger blade would be my suggestion, but only because I have no idea what you like, or what you can do, the dagger I think fits more people then other knife designs.

I would think that would be a given. Tough, sharp, cheap (50ish), and really easy to carry on a belt. I think you can rotate the holster sideways as well.

The ZT 0150 would also fit the bill. With some cord it would fit nicely in a horizontal position. It is a small/ slim knife and the quality and warranty are top notch.

Marbles Trailmate is slim, 154CM, jigged bone handle and has a horizontal carry sheath.

So too does the BUCK Gen5. Compact ,but a handle that suits even a large hand.Would make a good 'slasher'

Given that the Ka-Bar TDI Law Enforcement knife was designed specifically for the role the OP is looking for, I would say its at the very least worth looking at.

The knives are a very decent quality for the money, too.

I also agree that the Ka Bar TDI Law Enforcement knife is the way to go. I just got mine today. I did a lot of research looking for a last resort-weak hand option tool to assist with weapon retention. The knife is made in taiwan but is extremely well built and for the purpose is intended for, nothing comes close. The grip of the blade allows your weak hand to control it with little effort. It's comfortable to carry all day long and the sheath is reversible for left/right hand, or over under grip. There are plenty of options available for mounting it on a molle capable vest as well.

Please check it out. TDI by Ka Bar ;-)

Just my .02

I know a couple state troopers that carry the TDI, they have it rigged up so it sits right behind the pistol mags on their duty belt. Like between the mag pouches and the body/belt. Not sure how he rigged it up but it looked functional.

(edit: just watched the video, shows the mounting method I was talking about)
