small fixed blade

Fallkniven F1, Bark River Gunny, or ESEE (Rat Cutlery) RC-3. I have all three, and they carry well and are very durable.

I had to google the Coye Ridgeback. Does Bill post on these forums? That is a great looking knife.

I went ahead and ordered one of these. Here she is.

I just picked up a Boker/Krein Pocket Bowie that has turned out to be a really cool little knife. It comes with a kydex sheath that can be paired up with the tek-lok for vertical carry. G-10 handles, 440C, Blade length: 2 1/2". Overall length:
5 3/4" ,Weight: 2.2 oz. (A link below to a thread with pics on Pocket Bowie.) One of the best things about this Boker/Krein collaboration - it's less than $30 bucks. (I paid $26.95)

I know a couple state troopers that carry the TDI, they have it rigged up so it sits right behind the pistol mags on their duty belt. Like between the mag pouches and the body/belt. Not sure how he rigged it up but it looked functional.

(edit: just watched the video, shows the mounting method I was talking about)

I'm an LEO and MarineAir is correct. This is what most officers will carry in this area. It mounts to the underbelt between the magazine pouch and the hip. It is designed to be carried on the weak side so that if someone grabs your gun you can cover the gun and draw the knife all in one movement. I have carried and it does work well. Plus it is very affordable. If you buy a really expensive one remember that if you have to use it, it will be turning into evidence and you won't ever get it back. I'd go with the k-bar.

My EDC is an Izula and I love it. This knife is high design. Simple, elegant, functional, beautiful. Great sheath. Can't beat it for the price. But it is more like an all-purpose utility knife.

I also like the looks of the Chris Reeves Professional Soldier. Really nice necker and maybe a little more combat oriented. Expensive though.

I have been admiring the TOPS Knives Felony Stop designed by Laci Szabo. I think this could be an ideal knife for your purpose. The handle shape is great for an emergency grab, very similar to the K-Bar a lot of people like but with a sharpened top edge, so you can cut on the up-stroke. Almost like a push dagger but with the more familiar grip. Good high-carbon steel. If I were you I'd take a serious look at this one.

If you are interested in a push dagger go for a Cold Steel Safe Keeper II. I have had this knife for years and I think the design is near perfect. Could be better steel though.
