A lot of times when I carry a larger folder like a Manix or Military, I like to have a small one-hander to pair it with. I have a Salsa, UKPK, Wharcom and CE Trance I'll rotate for this purpose. I'm looking for something new, closer to the size of the wharcom than the larger ones. Wharcom is a great knife for this purpose but I want something a little more comfortable and less tactical. Requirements:

-Less than 3 inches of blade, greater than 1 inch of cutting edge
-Would like a steel with good edge holding, like VG10, S30V, ZDP189, D2 etc.
-I like strong locks but with this knife easy close and open is priority to that.
-Would like to find something with a more traditional look than tactical, but appearance alone won't rule a knife out.
-One handed opening, lock and clip

Right now I'm considering the Spyderco Spin or Lava as well as the Byrd Robin in G10 or SS. Any other suggestions?

My vote goes to the Byrd Robin. I can't say enough about that knife! It's a great value and very well made. I have both SS and G10. Much prefer the G10...if simply because of the screw construction. I have other knives in that size range...but the Robin keeps finding its way into my pocket.

I like the eteched Cricket. It's a solid frame lock knife with VG-10 steel & SS scales. The etching helps on grip. Another little knife I like, but the steel isn't high end, it the Blade-Tech Lite Mouse (The Mouse 2 would probably fit the bill, now that I think about it). The Lite Mouse has a flat grind 440C blade & FRN handles that feels like G-10 & it's a lock-back for strenght.

I like the small knives for certain situations too, my favorite is little knives that you can put some umph behind:
Spyderco's Lava and Cricket (like the other guy said)
Boker's Subcoms, I LOVE my subclaw!
and the Al Mar SLB
Sorry I don't know how oh post pics for you.

Look at the Buck Waimea. I really like it. Here it is with some of my other small folders:

BM 705 / 707- Heavier duty and have the axis lock
- Drops easily in the pocket (took the pocket clip off mine)

Spyderco Cricket- Disappears in your pocket and makes a great money clip as well
- Cuts like a knife 3x it's size

I have the cricket as well. I have never used it though as I don't have much use for blades under three inches long. I do open mail with it sometimes.

I find that the Spyderco Lava works very well for many edc jobs. A small blade with good steel and a great handle. Looks good too. Mine is sharp enough to split a hair.

I've always carried a medium sized slipjoint in my left front pocket to use instead of my large "tactical" folder in my right front pocket. But I have just recieved a Pro-Tech Runt and am thinking about removing the clip and carrying it. The runt has a 1 15/16" blade of 154CM that is razor sharp and an oal of 5 1/16". The button seems firm enough that an accidental opening will not occur, but I guess I'll see. This is an excellent sized knife for small jobs, and even though an auto it does seem "cute" so shouldn't raise too much of a sheeple alarm, and you can always open it against your side to sorta disguise the auto opening.

...and don't forget 154cm. Recommend: Benchmade 705, and or 707, mini-Ritter Grip, or an older 350 if you can find one!
