Small Game Knives

I would think, out of the options from Busse, I'd like something with straight handles. The AD / meaner style handles, IMHO, are more difficult to index and control with precision than the way a straight handle lays across your palm.

That would lead me to lean towards the culti, ABA, or original lean mean street. Two of those three would be very expensive and difficult to obtain. The only one I've ever actually held was the culti, but the other two are ones I hope see a re-release at a reasonable price, because I'm not paying what they go for second hand.

Straight handles RULE on small knives used for game or fish. Especially fish, which are more up my alley than rabbits and tree rats.

I'd recommend the MOAB from the Santa Ganza. Just point the buisiness end at any small game live or dead, the meat will skin and gut itself with no work on your part.

The culti does look like a very usable knife for the purposes we discussed. Have to give that one some serious thought. Thanks

Just for fun, some more comparison pics of stuff around the size you're looking at....

The High Street is an interesting choice - it's the thinnest EDC sized Busse I own at .165, and a fair slicer once the edge has been reprofiled to something good. I still don't like choils on knives this size, but at least the HS choil is large enough to use, unlike those on most small Busse's, which just get in the way.

My AD and Meaner are "tweeners" at .18, and the AD has proved itself to be a pretty decent slicer too. Haven't used the MS because I don't think I'm gonna keep it, but I would imagine it would perform similarly.

Out of all of those pictured, I think I might actually choose the RC-3 for small game. It's the thinnest at .128, has great ergos, and carries well. Blasphemy, I know...

Yea decisions decisions, I guess thats why like potato chips you can't have just one Busse knife. Kinda explains why you guys own so many I guess.

Now this is an easy one:p
The Cultie at .125 with its straight handle rules for small game, and is great on anything up to whitetail deer.

I use a CS Cultie with pins and no handle swells.
Here is a pic of my favorite smaller Busse's.

Having no "small" or "thin" busses, I used my CG ash-1 to gut, skin and process my two bucks this year. It worked out perfectly, although a skinny ASH would have been better for the task.

Nice pics Knife Hunter. Thats the hack I was talking about...nice little skinning blade.

I still have a couple of the 152 Old Timers and still use them on deer.

I like that OJ Warden. Thats the next Busse on my want list.

Like this one?

I use a Cultellus, its an awesome little knife, way underrated.

gm- is on the money here!!! CULTI is a sweet little knife for GP use. I love the BAD as well but when skinning small game you always need to watch the tip not to poke the gut pile so to speak, where as a Culti you have more of a blade sweep to role through tissue easily IMHO.;)

Another Bussekin knife that may be worth consideration for the job is the Swamp Rat Bandicoot. Very usable choil. 0.187" thickness.

Some nice pictures guys, I'm kinda growing fond of the Culti and the game warden.

Id say the best Busse knife out now to skin and clean small game would be the thinner game wardens, high street, BAD, leaner meaner and the hack. There is a hack out with a convex edge on it that would make a sweet small game skinning knife. If a thinner version of the BOSS Street comes out, that would make a sweet small game knife.

Agree!
