Small gap

Last night I put on a couple of slabs of G-10 with liners and 5 fasteners. Each one is about 6 inches and 3 1/6 thick. This morning I noticed a spot that must not have gotten a good clamping because there is a small gap between the slab and the liner. Is it possible to spot-heat the area with a heat-gun and re-clamp the area, or will the liner just melt?

Or should I just grind it until the problem goes away? :D

I had that happen once and managed to shove epoxy into the gap with a #11 exacto knife and then reclamp.

We have a motto in the software business:

"If you can't fix it, feature it."

(Maybe that's why people hate computers?)

For instance is the gap is big enough you can say it's for holding loose change.

Seriously I done Matt's trick twice. Once it worked, once it didn't. Not that it's a bad idea, it depended more on how much tension is required to hold that spot down and how much stuff you can get in there.

Plan 2 is to fill with thick CA glue and live with it. (Done that too.)

Michael, I hope somebody else has some magic for this problem.

I'm not realyl clear what the problem looks like but if the gap is because of a defect in the handle slab, I have previously just filled the gap with epoxy that has been dyed close to the colour of the slabs eg.- black K&G Finishing pigment for black G10 slabs.

Or, if there is a gap and the space has been filled with a visible layer of epoxy - its a LOT more difficult. I imagine theres no way to fix it without removing the slabs altogether.

One option is to do something on the area such as cut some traction grooves or texturing across where there is a "gap" - it can sometimes cut deep enough to reach a point where there isn't a gap. Or at least it could disguise the extent of the gap.

Tough one. Jason.

Okay, I guess I jumped the gun on this one. After grinding the extra G-10 away, I realized I was just paranoid this morning and there wasn't a gap. :o

Relax Mike. We call this "I just got engaged and realize I can't hit on the honeys at Remingtons anymore" syndrome. You'll see lot's of weird things during this time. ;)
