Small Horizontal Belt Mounted Fixed Blade?

Hello!

I am in the market for a small easily concealed fixed blade that will mount horizontally to my belt with a durable secure sheath. I currently have the SOG Snarl and the 5.11 Sidekick Boot Knife, but the Snarl is an aweful utility blade (and SOG wouldn't help me out when the sheath broke in under a year), and the 5.11's sheath is horribly made (I've been through two within a year). I was considering the Buck Ops Boot Knife, but figured I'd ask the experts on this forum and see if you have any other ideas. The big things for me are a small knife that is easy to conceal, horizontal mount, and a dependable, durable, secure sheath. Thanks!

You should go custom.

TOPS knives. Over a hundred different knives, tons of innovative designs, in any size you need. USA made, high quality materials, and amazing sheaths with incredibly flexible mounting options. My favorite from them is the street scalpel, not an incredible slicer but gets jobs I need to do, done. Very thick knife, but also low profile. Its just a badass knife and its under 80 shipped! This knife comes with their rotating belt clip, you're gonna dig it.

Check out TOPS and let me know what you think.

I've checked out tops, but I was hoping for something with steel that requires less maintenance than what they usually use...1095, I believe.

Dpx gear Hest fixed blade. Original or Stainless models. The original is 1095, but it's coated so not much maintenance really. Niolox is a solid performing stainless steel used in the assault models n I love it. The SHEATH that comes with the original is great for scout carry and easily adjustable. You can usually find one for sale here on the exchange; 1095 or niolox. Some models don't come with the kydex sheath but dpx sells them on their site for like 15 bucks which is a good deal.

You might also check some of the custom makers here. There is definitely something out there in your wheelhouse.

Good luck

Gerber Ghostrike Fixed Blade. The sheath and knife are very flat and the included mounting system keep them very close to the body. I have the deluxe version and use the ankle wrap when I go jogging or I'm not wearing a belt. Go for the non-deluxe one if you don't need the wrap. It has a drop-point blade, which should be more versatile than the SOG Snarl's.

Most TOPS knives have very thick blade stock as well. While this makes them tougher it also makes them heavier and more unwieldy for carry. That said, they do have some knives in 154CM, and some knives, such as the Pasayten Traveler, that are of decent stock thickness (the Traveler is also 154CM). Shadow Tech knives are also known for overdone stock thickness; too bad, as they have some designs I'd like for EDC, but 1/4" stock is overkill for the applications.

Do you actually buy any of the knives you ask for recommendations on, or do you just like seeing everyone jump through hoops for you?

My personal favorite may have been the knife for a rock musician one, or the help me spend my money one ..."$55.43 to be exact".

To give you yet another suggestion, I think the new Winkler tanto is very concealable, and has a fantastic sheath.

I'm personally a fan of the Spyderco Street Beat, I carry mine horizontal in a custom leather sheath, but the stock kydex one is very secure and pretty versatile too

Honestly I enjoy these recommendation threads simply for the fact that I learn of a lot of knives that I otherwise wouldn't have learned of. :o

I've got a gerber strongarm horizontally riding on the back of my belt right now. Not the best knife I have, but for a stout beater, it's not bad for 50 bucks.

I don't feel like I need to explain myself to you, but yes, I do try a lot of them out. It is my understanding that this is a place for knife enthusiasts to discuss knives, no matter who you are. If I am wrong, or if there is a limit to how many times I can ask for advice, please correct me. Until then, stop attacking and try to post something useful. Thank you!

For over a decade, I've carried a CRKT Stiff Kiss clip point, both horizontal and as a neck knife. It has an AUS6M 3.5" blade, skeleton construction and a secure sheath. It's a flat package, light in weight and works well. Many people wrap the grip in paracord, but I plastic-dipped it for a super secure grip. It made the knife way better! Long out of production, these knives still come up at auction sites for around $30.

Customs aren't as expensive as one might think...especially for small fixed blades. I have this one on me right now, horizontal mount weak side. Lots of great makers on this forum, just ask around to see what people can do:-)

Wipe the tears up and notice a solid recomendation that I did leave.
