Knives are tools. I don't concern myself whether my wrenches are holding their value. No one lives forever. Buy a good knife, use it. Some things aren't meant to be analyzed too much. I was you ten years ago.
And I was you 10 years ago

1. Good quality used tools in good condition do not lose lose value when you use them a little more before selling.
2. Almost nothing new will retain value after having been used. The ultra rare exception is for things increasing in value enough that it keeps up with the used depreciation. Stuff that wears out almost NEVER does that unless it is very special, like an Edison phonograph or a Leica camera. I don't remember seeing anything like that in modern equipment until I found Busse knives. They're made to be used AND treasured. It's truly unusual, and I think they have a shot at becoming legendary in 50 to 100+ years when old grannies start feeling like they won the lottery after taking them to Antiques Roadshow.
Like you, I like to use my tools. Like everyone, I like to save money and maybe make money. I'm lucky enough to be able afford to do both, if it is at all possible, and with Busse knives, maybe it is? Another luxury I have (for now) is some free time to over-analyze. If all that makes me healthy, wealthy, and wise, then I'm pretty happy too.
