Small knives with "super steels"?

If he's going to cut through cardboard to break boxes down, I'd suggest one with a good finger choil, or one with a handle that has a finger groove for the index finger.

Hey everyone,

So since I posted this thread, I'm still searching for a knife to replace his ladybug. I did end up buying a wicked edge so I can get his knife super sharp, but now I just want to give him a nicer knife because I have gotten into higher end knives. I keep asking him about pocket clips or just dropping the knife in his pocket, but he insists it has to fit on his keychain. Are there any knives that have titanium handles (he much prefers the metal to FRN or G10) that have a higher end steel that also have a hole to fit on his keys? Ugh, maybe I'll just buy the dang GB Air and drill a hole in it o.O

I don't know if it'll fit on a key chain but the Three Sisters Forge CCT is a good choice, M390 Blade, Sculpted Ti handles, Framelock etc. It'll run about $200 though.

i consider the delica the best all-around small knife, especially if in zdp 189. now, a zdp edge may last longer than vg-10 or even s30v. but it will dull so you'd better know how to sharpen.

I don't think drilling a hole in the GB Air would be good! Haha.

Have you tried sharpening the ladybug on the wicked edge already? If you got a hair-whittling edge on there, I'd imagine it'd last him a good while.

Have you looked at the Manbug and Dragonfly2? There are stainless steel handle versions. I have the stainless steel tattoo Dragonfly. I also have a Dragonfly in Nishijin. Very nice scales that he might like. And they have zdp189 or aogami super blue Dragonfly versions too. Having a finger coil is also a plus.

You could get a Manbug, Dragonfly or Ladybug in whatever blade steel you think is best, then have someone make custom titanium scales for it! 👏

Best suggestion ever, imo. ^_^

Oh, and I also have a Techno and Pingo. The Pingo doesn't have a lanyard hole and it's a non-locking slipjoint. The Techno is pretty chunky. I don't think it's very keychain friendly even though I do have a keychain on mine lol. See pic. I guess if he only carries one or two keys on it, it'd be ok...

Not exactly a gentlemans folder but it's different. Dustar makes a sliding OTF 2.9 inch bladed keychain type box cutter but it has real M2 HSS at rc 63 blade . It is called the "cutting Jack". M2 is certainly nothing to sneeze at though I would prefer something beside the flat ground "chisel" grind.

Another good choice though "only" VG10 is the different A.G.Russell Titanium lock backs in 2", 2.5", to 3" closed in slab sided Titanium, up to fancy Quince, Abalone, even Carbon Fiber. These are extremely well made blades with a very high level of QC. Mine came tight and able to shave arm hair. From under an ounce to 1.1 ounce or so. "Only" VG10 at 59-61 rc but very high quality.

You can get exotic with small fixed or folders with guys like Mr.Itou at Japan knives direct ( no link, sorry. not a supporter of BF) with R2 Damascus ( proprietary steel)

Falkniven has some small, nice yet practical folders like the U1, U2, T3, T4 in steels such as SPGS 3G and Cobalt special. Premium to "super" premium steels depending on your guidelines. Made by Moki so they are smooth and well built and get smoother as they age.

Good luck.

Do not drill a hole in the GB Air. You don't need to. You can tie a lanyard around the standoff.

The Chris Reeve Mnandi is about the same size as the Air. Thats about as good as it gets for the size you want.
