The title says it all. That's the general purpose EDC knife I'm looking for. To add detail, the blade should be from 2""-2.5". Edge can be straight, combo or serrated. Stainless, decent edge retention and easily sharpened. But, it need not be a "super steel". The street price should be in the $50 or less range, but I'd consider $75 for a really good choice. Lightweight means 2 oz. or less., with a good non-slip grip. Tip-up is preferred carry. No liner lock as I'm a lefty. I really would like a black pocket clip, even if it's an extra cost option. I've ruled out Spyderco because I already have a lovely Dragonfly. I just want alternative suggestions. I'd very much appreciate your suggestions. Cheers!

Look at the small bucklite Max 484 ,I have the medium 482 which I think has a 3.5" blade and it's awesome.
It's extremely lightweight, tip up deep carry pocket clip, bucks American made 420hc Steel takes and holds a good edge for edc, and it's only 15$ at knifecenter.
I feel like I've seen them with a black blade and clip before, but if not you could put some black shrink tubing on it ( would also help from scratching your car )
Other than spyderco ,maybe a kabar dozier, and if they make an Ontario rat small enough I can't think of anything else that's as lightweight.

The only alternative I carry to the DF2 is the CRKT Squid, but its got some heft. Chaparral sees more pocket time than both, but is about $100. The Mini Tuff is awesome, but I never carry mine over the DF2.

The Cold Steel Mini Lawman comes pretty close to meeting all the things you said you wanted. Can be found for only slightly more than $75. Weighs only slightly more than 2 oz. Might be some other things that put you off of that one such as handle to blade ratio or that the clip(even though its black) carries high--or maybe those aren't deal breakers. They wouldn't be deal breakers for me.

Another option would be the Byrd Robin if that's not too close to being a Spyderco. Maybe get one of those with different scales or a different edge if you're just wanting something that's different from your Dragonfly.

You know, often a guy will come in here looking for a certain knife with certain features, and give a cap of some amount of money.

Invariably, some goofball will chime in with "Well, if you save up another $40 you can get....." Completely ignoring the price ceiling.

Sometimes though, that recommendation is spot on. And in such instance you should go out and pick up aluminum cans to recycle, sell plasma down at the blood bank, or start doing Parkour dares for $5 a pop because there's just those times when you gotta raise the roof on your price in order to get the perfect fit.

This is such a time, and I am the invariable goofball.

I recommend that you get to that second job so that you can get either an Al Mar Ultralight Falcon with Talon blade, or the equally cool Al Mar SLB (Stout Little Backup).

Both are extremely lightweight. Both have black stainless clips. Both are done in Al Mar's AUS-8, which is ridiculously easy to sharpen to a razor edge using nothing but a coffee mug or top of a car window. Both have Al Mar's top-notch quality, fit and finish, and all around coolness factor. They're pricey, but you'll avoid the trap of getting something cheaper that just "fits the bill" and being disappointed enough to keep looking.

Buy once, cry once. That's what me ol' Pappy told me one time and he was right. So get out there and start selling plasma, or open a lemonade stand or....

KaBar Mini Dozier

SOG twitch II,
Close but, slightly over 2.5" and slightly over 2.5oz
Assisted
Lockback
AUS-8
(I believe reversible clip L/R)

Aluminum handles not the best grip.

But, for a few dollars over your limit you can get a H&K mini axis, d2 steel, axis lock, just over 2.5" and 2.5oz. ;)

Was gonna throw that out, but since I was already out of the price range, I figured I'd go big or go home.

But yeah.... The 14716 is just about perfect.

I was going to suggest getting an old Schrade SW7 Switch-It knife as it fits the bill nicely to what you're looking for...blade's too long for your requirements though.
