Small, Lightweight EDC

This is probably a separate issue but the "tactical" value of any folding knife is extremely low, much less a tiny folding knife. 🤦‍♂️
I thought "deployment of your tactical cutting system" would be indicative of my joking.

You cannot attach to a keychain, but I've become a huge fan of the Microtech UTX 70. Assuming you can legally carry a switchblade, these little guys are fantastic. Nothing tactical about them.

Is that a flaw on a particular 425 or all of them in your opinion? I have several 425 Bucks, used to be my EDC before I got knife fever, but they always seemed easy to open with the nail nick to me. Incredible little knife; light, strong, American made, locking.

Spyderco Bug and Cricket are small enough for a keychain.
Cricket has immensely more cutting power than the Bug with it's reverse-S profile and VG-10 steel, and those serrations, if you get those (it also comes plainedge) as opposed to the Bug and it's... relatively, for Spyderco, disappointing 3cr13mov. I mean, they were already making it in China, they couldn't have added the 8cr at least? Maybe S35VN! How much would the Bug be with that, like $30 rightfully? They should make a Bug in K390 or Maxamet or something, and have the most affordable super-steeled keychain knife.

I love that as a fifth-pocket knife, where I might otherwise keep a Case, Winchester, Dragonfly or Chaparral. It's super classy, smaller than a BIC. It boggles the mind that it is still "too big" for my area, they make a 2" UTX-70 for this reason alongside the normal, but I prefer the regular one.

There is a thread about 3cr, the Bug and the Grasshopper on the company forum where Sal wrote any change other than discontinuation is unlikely.

Yeah, I know, I was just having fun with the idea of offering the Bug in all the super-steels or a wharnie. Maybe Reverse-S Bug on a vomp lock? 😂 Would be cool to see an S35 version, though, for real 😂 And still think they should just slap the 8cr on there, but no, I'm happy with it as it is, it was my first ever Spyderco and it's... the best 3cr13 there is, haha. It is a great keychain knife and I understand people mostly get it as a novelty, but Opinel doesn't slouch on materials for their no. 2...
It would totally suck if those knives got discontinued, I think most agree, we love the Bug for what it is.

I know I am looking at this way too hard, haha. I would read that thread though, was it on here?

Over here.

That's a shame. In today's market, 8Cr13Mov is hard to justify at $25, let alone the $50+ where we see Spyderco using it. (It should be noted that Spyderco will be upgrading some of those knives in the future. How long into the future is a mystery. Sal has talked about this a little in threads on the Spyderco forum.)

Forget "hard to justify" on 3Cr13. That steel is literally used to make scales and liners. It's bad. If 5Cr15 is a step down from 8Cr13Mov, 3Cr13 is like stepping on a weak spot in the floor and your foot busts through into the crawlspace.
