small locking EDC

I've been EDC'ing a Gerber evo jr. I know that Gerber gets a bad rap, but I really like the size, blade shape, handle design, and locking mechanism. Unfortunately, the thing doesn't hold an edge worth crap. (Which is, I suppose, why Gerber gets a bad rap.) I don't even know what steel it's made of, and they don't seem to advertise it anywhere, which probably means that it's whatever's cheap that week.

So I'm looking for a locking folder to EDC. It needs to be pretty light, thin, and narrow, with a 2-3 inch blade, have no serration, and some better steel. 440C, or better yet ATS34 or 154CM or something in that range. I've considered the CRKT M16 EDC, but it's AUS8, and I'm hoping for a bigger upgrade.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Spyderco Delica 4 (blade slightly under 3 inches)
Spyderco Native (blade slightly over 3 inches)
Benchmade 530 (blade slightly over 3 inches)
Ka-Bar Dozier Thorn (blade slightly over 3 inches)

How about a simple William Henry T10CF (liner lock in ATS34) or Monarch size (button lock in ZDP189)?

Great feather-weight folders (1 to 2 oz) for simple things like opening a letter or a FedEx Box and more = )

The T10CF is the one at the bottom with carbon fibre scales.

This is a monarch size (B05) with desert ironwood scales:

KCkc and huugh - great suggestions!!

Also the Klotzlis I've seen & handled at shows are real nice too - some pics here: http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_maker/e_through_k/klotzli.html
I particularly like the Sarra...

And the Camillus EDC was one of my favorites - when it was made here (USA) with the 154CM blade
I love that knife

but now it's become a "collectible" I guess; not familiar with the quality of the newer ones being made overseas

Rifon2 I have one made "overseas" (=Taiwan :)) and quality is very good. But it has AUS8 now.
I posted pics in Gallery some time ago if you are intersted...

Get a bit of class and get a Fallkniven TK3

or if you are not against slipjoints, have a look in the makers section for folders made by T.A Davidson AKA bigal2me

If you like the M16 get it.

I like the CRKT S-2 models but they have been discontinued and might be hard to find but also might be some good buys if you do find them.

Now is you want to have some fun and get some attention get a Spyderco Spyker!

The Kershaw Leek model with zdp-189 blade and titanium handle has been very popular (if you can find one).

There is the Spyderco Spin, great & sharp little knife, and a framelock to. I would also suggest a Delica 4, a Spyderco Kopa, or Spyderco Dragonfly, Native, Kiwi......These are great knives.

Buck 886 Mini Taclite

This knife is similar in size and design to the Gerber EVO Jr. but it is made by Buck, has an ATS-34 blade, G-10 scales, and a button release liner lock.

They are discontinued so they will be difficult to find at a good price but One Stop Knife Shop still has them in stock.

I recently picked up the Fallkniven U2 folder, light weight, blade not too long
but it's not overly narrow but still nice, blade has premium steel for a center core, yes, it's a nice laminated blade, selling for around $50 at most sites that carry it, like New Graham Knives I think, and it is remarkably sharp!

Here is a shot of the edge so you can see how thin and nice it is;

i would say exactelly the same !
if you want a light and small EDC, you should absolutely try the fallkniven U2, it's amazing !
And blade is from premium steel ("super gold premuim steel" or something like that!).
On teh box, it's writen hardness 64HRC, but on plenty forum it quote 62HRC  .. anyway, it's sharp as hell !:D
