Was scrolling down through the sweet hawks at ragweed forge (lots in stock now!) And came upon that beauty. Heres the specs and a link. About as big as the Lee Reeves, and cheap and no wait.

Marble's Hunter's Axe
#MR009DB; Here's another recreation from the 1800's, a double bitted hunter's axe. It was common to keep one edge razor sharp for chopping and skinning, and the other a bit blunter for cartilage or knotty wood. The handle is 14 1/2" long, and has a useful swell below the handle. This improves the grip when choking up on the handle for skinning or carving. The carbon steel head is just under 5" wide with 2 3/4" cutting edges. It weighs about one pound, six ounces. The samples I checked had very useable edges out of the box. The axe is supplied with a belt sheath for $34.
It's priced this way because it's made under license in China. They have been in storage. The boxes may be damaged and the heads may have minor rust spots which do not affect the function.

If it's as nice as I hope, I may be selling the GB SFA!:D

OK, just ordered one. Added a #911 and a fishing knife in there also, just cuz I could...

raindog101, just doing a search on these, apparently they are having problems with the head slipping off, no taper in the eye. Some guys like them enough they are putting a couple of brass pins through the head and handle, but I may try to countour the eye with the dremel and files. PM me if you have any Questions.

As noted, people who have purchased this item report that the eye is the same dimension at the top and at the bottom of the head. This creates a problem keeping the head on the handle. Some have tried pinning the head. Don't know the result. I bought one of the China-made No. 9's and it has worked out.

ED: And I bought one I had to send back due to lack of eye taper.

OK, thanks for all the feedback. I'll check it out when it gets here, and let you all know what's going on with it.

I really want a small or medium double bit like this but the reviews for this one are terrible. Anyone know of any others?

do a search for lee reeves. he probably makes the best double bit nessmuk style hatchet around. it has about a 1 year wait on them.

iirc there use to be one sold by ragnar called the fort meigs nessmuk but i don't know if it is around anymore. maybe someone else will know.

The Ft. Meigs is back at Ragnar's BUT it's in the steel for throwing - no option for the steel that takes a harder, choppin' axe edge AND it's a single bit axe.

Nice looking axe but I'm leery of the Made in China products  I'm waiting Patiently  for 2 from Lee Reeves but it seems like a very very long time. Patience is a virtue that the wife says that I lack :D

owned one of the china marbles tiny double bits. the operative word is Tiny. never used it, don't know what i'd use it for, maybe making a log doll house. :)

never owned these, but i have read that the temper of these blades is too soft for serious use...

a review would be good when you get it
