Small/Medium Camping/Survival Fixed Blade Suggestions

Once you own and use a Mora, my money goes on you NOT throwing it out ((( :D ))). For $10 to $30, you can;t go wrong. I'd probably like a wood handled Mora if I ever got one, but right now I like a plain old 510 or one of the Clippers.

Even if you get a sturdier knife like the ESEE or a Rat or a BM or something, 4 or 5 Moras are in your near future.

If trends are anything to pay attention to, a couple or more Bark Rivers are in your future, too. :D

At the risk of being redundant, I'd say a Mora's your best choice. If you don't use a FB except maybe the occasional camping trip, while the others are a good choice, you really can't beat a Mora for the $.

While it's not thick & doesn't really chop, it'll probably do all that you need of it & makes for a good "car knife", too.

Get a multitool and a bunch of Mora knives. Bring a folding saw for heavier jobs.
Keep one knife for food preparations. That way you dont get sausage that tastes like tar.

If you happen to loose a Mora in the lake or break one, you wont be disappointed about it.

I'm gonna go with the mora, maybe two of them. Now I guess I just have to figure out which model to get. Thanks for the suggestions and advice

I like the 780 Triflex.

I also have the new bushcraft models which are $20 or $30 instead of $10 or $15 but they have thicker blades and usable sheaths.

Clippers are nice too.

ESEE - 4
In my opinion this is a great all around camp knife. It's built tough, has really good steel, easy to sharpen, takes a great edge, and the company offers a really top notch warranty. Sometimes simpler is just better.

I have an RC-4 and it is my go to camp knife. That being said, the below quote is also true.

Nothing wrong with all the other recommendations, but probably all you really need is a $12 Mora.

While Moras are inexpensive, it's easy to drop $70-$100 trying to decide between all the different flavors. So the box arrives, and you find the one that's just right. The rest go to the cars, one to the garage, one with the canoe kit, one in the basement, etc...

My current favorite is the 546-G. After removing the guard, it is essentially a green stainless 510. It was $12. I have two of them.

In sweden you dont just buy ONE Mora knife, maybe you have ten and you never sharpen them either. They never get thrown away, they end up lying around everywhere. If you visit a farm in sweden you rarely need to bring a knife. Everywhere there is need for a knife, to open bags with fertilizer or seeds, cut baling string etc. there will be a Mora close by. If it is newish it will probably hang in its sheath on a nail on the wall, if it is older it is stuck between two planks without a sheath or just stabbed into the wall, as high up as possible so the kids wont reach it.
Mora knives (or clones thereof) are the Average Joe knife, Mora 2000 is an "expensive" knife and Fallkniven are for knife nuts and geardos.
People who dont "know" about knives make do with a 4 dollar knife (what a Mora cost in Sweden).

Mora knives are great. Best value. Especially the very popular clippers.

When on the move, you have to consider the sheath though. The plastic ones that come from factory are barely just good at holding the knife on your belt. Turn it upside down and the knife will fall out.

To make carrying a mora a perfect experience, you really need kydex, or leather if it's the stainless version.

You want a great knife for a great price get a Mora. Best bang for your bucks. I have 5 and I love them. They take an edge quick with a Spyderco Sharpmaker. I can shave my face with it.

You guys love your moras.
will have to get one or five.
what would be better ?
bush craft or army mod?

Mora gets my vote too!

How do you like those thicker blades?

I love the Mora brand. I have 10 various models at last count.
