small minded regulations

I have not considered it before but can't think of any small well rated knives.
Atlanta has a city blade length carry limit of 2". The dozens of knives I own are all longer.
What utility and tactical folders are good enough to consider?
My only requirements are a locking blade that can be opened one handed;
a clip would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I think the Blade-Tech Mouse is smaller than 2 inches. It comes in S30V/G-10 or 440C/FRN depending on how much you want to spend.

There is also the Boker SubCom.

Start with Spyderco. They are masters of the tinyknife. My latest is the Spydie Spin. EXCELLENT blade, great grip, small as it is, and just beautifully constructed. All stainless steel framelock, too.

2" for any knife? Wow, that's crazy, I wonder if guys on worksites have to worry about that restriction.

The AL Mar SLB is another small one, 1.8" blade

I have never talked to anyone who actually complies with it.
2" does seem to be excessively short and or silly.
I will start looking at these suggestions.

The Benchmade original Benchmite or newer Benchmite II would be good choices.

I think Boston and Chicago also have a 2" limit. I know people say those laws are only in place so the police can add a charge to someone making trouble, but it doesn't help you if they spot your over-2 knife on a bad day.

That SLB is probably one of the thickest of the little knives, for a good working grip.

Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, etc. have made it easier for the mugger types to ply their trade. 2" is quite laughable and I thank heaven I live in a more enlightened area when it comes to knives. Guns, however, are a different story in the "Free State." :grumpy:

heh, i might have gotten in trouble over the summer, i had no idea

i can't imagine not even being able to carry a multi-tool

i like the Spyderco idea... i've been trying to find a reason to buy a Cricket

I have read of extreme blade length limits such as this, but never of any handle length limits. It seems to me that, if handicapped with a limit such as 2", I would like to have it in a full length handle. This should maximize its utility. And, although I really don't carry a knife for self defense, if it ever came to such, the longer handle would be a definite advantage. I seem to remember Spyderco once offering such a knife.

Of course, living in Alabama I don't personally have this problem.:D

If you have to stick to under 2 inches, you are almost better off with a small fixed blade IMO.

Hideaway knife, Bark River Mikro Canadian and Benchmade 210 Activator all come to mind. I would suggest having a kydex sheath made for the Bark river or the 210, they both come with crappy sheaths.

I second the Activator. At that size I would go for fixed as well.

How about the Spyderco Meerkat ?

Blade is a hair under 2 , also has a 'cuteness' factor to it. :p

Interestingly all the places mentioned with extreme blade limits (boston, chicago, atlanta) are leaders in violent crime in the US and have been both before and after the laws were put into place. I used to live just outside of Chicago and believe me the laws do nothing to stop the crime. They just make it easier for certain leo to hassle me.

I just got a Boker Plus Subcom folder, it has an AUS8 blade which is a vast improvement over the original 420j one.

Take a look at some of the Kershaw folders as well, there are some cool little knives in their catalog.

If you're considering fixed blades, I would recommend Bark River.
