Hi,

I am looking for a nice, small, discreet, yet high quality folder for the office I can keep in my pocket and holds a edge for a long time. I have a budget around $80.00 and was looking at the
Dragonfly G10, Chaparral or the Falkniven U2, or I am open to other suggestions, but with the main focus on a long edge life.

Thanks!

The chaparral is excellent — carbon fiber, a very low riding clip, and XHP.

Otherwise, the Dragonfly sprint in ZDP-189 and CF would be a good fit for the office.

When I read the title I though Chaparral. I carried mine today to the Dr's office as to not scare anyone.

Why do you need high edge retention in an office knife? AUS-8 or 8CR can be run at very low angles with a high polish edge, will likely cut better and be plenty sharp for your purposes.

This one often ends up in my pocket when I'm dressed for the office - GEC #15 (this one is with bone covers):

This holds an edge forever

Also the Fallkniven U2 in powdered steel

This.
Cuts office cardboard like butter.

And super thin
Edge retention not an issue

Op. So what is the huge emphasis on edge retention?

I think he just wants a good knife that he can use often and wont have to sharpen as often. Sheesh, the guy asked for recommendations and everyone flips out about WHY. He wants what he wants.

I use a Caly 3 CF/ZDP-189 when I have office heavy days. If i'll be out on the facility grounds a lot it's the PM2 or 0550.

It sounded like the OP was asking for a gentleman's folder, I wanted to know what he was intending to use if that he needed high edge retention because that can effect the type of knife he would get. Gentleman's folders typically have thin geometry, high edge stability steels tend to be desirable for this application, but S30V really isn't that.

In all honesty, the Speedform seems like it would meet the OPs needs the best.

I hear ya Bill. A lot of the smaller gent's styles don't get you high edge retention because they're not so much designed for that kind of "knifing". I got the Caly 3 (ZDP) so i'd have the best of both worlds in the event I had to leave the office to go out on a field call, i'd still have a decent folder with me.

Queen has quite a few slip joints in D2. Beyond that I think a Ladybug or Manbug in zdp would be quite good for the office.

Overbudget by a little, but the Spyderco Gayle Bradley Air is a good pick for an office folder. M4 holds its edge for a long, long time!
