small office folder with great edge retention?

I think you would be very happy with the Chaparral. The Dragonfly FRN is thin and light enough to ride inside your pocket also, I removed the pocket clip from mine and carry it that way when I need to be totally discreet.

I'll have to second the Kershaw Leek suggestion. The base 14C28N Sandvik steel has great edge retention, but it gets even better if you can find a Random Leek in S30V. A CRKT Eros would be quite nice, too. It's a fast and fun flipper, milled titanium handle, and I've found the edge retention suitable on mine with their modified 440C.

+1 for caly dragonfly and leek

Also check out a lion steel daghetta. D2 blade I believe.

ZDP Dragonfly is my go to office knife. I always have a larger blade on me, but the Dragonfly does any cutting I need at the office.

Spyderco Chaparral 1 with a 2.8" blade of CTS-XHP steel and carbon fiber scales. Thin, light and holds an edge.

What about the Dragonfly VG10?? Why the ZDP steel?

Zdp holds an edge very long, is very wear resistant at 68 hrc. Harder to sharpen I hear, but boy does it stay sharp a long time. I have the the dragonfly and Caly 3 in zdp. Great office knives.

The largest folder that I would want in an office is something like the Chaparral. I find that the U2 doesn't hold an edge as good as the larger Fallkniven folders in SG steel. It is supposedly the same stuff, but the heat treatment may not be the same.
I use the Chaparral or Spydeco Michael Walker as office folders. There are also some nice folders by Moki and Mcusta in AUS8A and VG10.

Dragonfly ZDP or Gayle Bradle Air (M4)

The Air is more expensive, but the M4 steel will hold an edge darned near forever...particularly for an office-worker's needs. ZDP is a good steel, as found for instance in the excellent Caly 3 series, but not in the same class as M4.

I personally would go with a basic Spyderco Delica. Edge retention is very good and you aren't paying for the high dollar powdered steels.

From my point of view, one should choose a knife for office use that will offend or raise the fewist eye browls when you open it or use it in front of people. I would not choose a knife that people would view as a fighting knife. From that point of view, it is hard to beat a Victorinox SAK of your choice, but they do not have great edge retention. The counter is that they are very easy to sharpen. Other considerations for me would be a Great Eastern (GEC) slip joint such as mentioned above.

This.

Edge retention not an issue

yeah, it is, those razors are usually cheap and dull very quickly, if I was to go back working at the mall (as a cardboard cutting ninja) I would seriously not use a boxcutter.

I second the vote on the Kershaw speedform:thumbup:

The Fallkniven U2 is a nice office friendly option. When I carry mine I keep it in a leather sleeve in my pocket. The ZPD Dragonfly 2 is also a nice small option and, as mentioned, has better edge retention than the U2 but the SGPS is more than decent in that regard and is easier to sharpen. I don't know what your specific needs are but my office time uses are mostly slicing up fruit and opening mail. I find the U2 has a more usable blade profile than the DF2 for fruit slicing duty which is probably why my Caly's get more pocket time than my DF2's. The cutting edge of the U2 is 2.25" and the DF2 is 1.875", something to consider.

The Bradley Air seems like a good suggestion as well although I don't think I've seen any for less than the 120's. It's big brother is high up in my full size folder rotation.

Boker plus elegance titanium blues....it is 440c but at around 50 bucks it is a great value. Titanium and carbon fiber looks great it is small and light and easy to conceal in suit pants and although the blade is small it is tough! Comes in full carbon fiber as well. The new crkt eros is also an option at around 50 bucks. You could probably pick up a used EROS on eBay the first version. Nicer scales also a great option.

Honestly...if you can save up I would second the Gayle Bradley air from spyderco. I have one and have hammered on the blade and it is still sharp....very strong and very light also great for suit pants. I carry this knife more than most. Strength to weight I don't think you can beat it,
