I'll add one more- not a pack for everyone- very (very) spartan, but also very light and very rugged (Dyeenma)- Golite Ion- 10 oz, 25 liters- if your a careful (and light) packer you can actually do 2-3 day trips w/ it

if your handy, or know someone handy- some mesh pockets and a little lashing can can make it a very capable pack- the price is right too at ~ $40

I am another one who loves the Camelbak Mule. It was a christmas gift a year or two ago and it is my sole pack for day hikes and one nighters. It fits everything and I attach my sleeping bag and tarps to the bottom using the "waist" straps. The Blackhawk! Predator has been the pack that I've used for years in just such situations. I'd recommend it readily.

I picked up a Small Eagle hydration pack 2L bladder with 2 smaller outer pockets ,seems cool and would work great for short hikes . ,great shoulder straps & belt strap & padded back area for your back to breath.

Well if I am planning on anything more then a hike, I take my Typhoon, but for a general dayhike, with enough gear for an unexpect night or two, I simply take a Nike slingbag. Works great, comfortable, small and lite. Will post a picture tonight when I get home.

I have a Fatboy and a Remora, I don't really use the Fatboy, but I EDC the Remora. I like it a lot. I just got a Condor II, which is my current woods bag, and I carry a 10 X 4 Water bottle carrier for shorter hikes:

I have a camo bag that is like a large fanny pack that goes half way up my back from the waist. It has one strap that goes across my chest. I like it while I hunt because it doesn't put a strain on my right shoulder and neck when I throw up my rifle. It's all I need for the day.
