I agree with most of the suggestions above for one-handers.
I own and carry many knives. Generally more than three.
The blade I always carry for ugly office chores is not a one hand knife.
I always carry one 3 1/2" closed Vic Alox two blade pruner or apprentice. These are thin, and not dangerous looking. The main blade is a good, medium length utility slicer. The Pruner or Sheepsfoot Electrician blades will handle any ugly (Clam Shell to sticky tape) package opening jobs faster and better than any blade I have used, including box cutters (milelage may vary). Google the Alox pruner. They are available for $15.50 +S&H to $30.00 + S&H.
