Small pocket size lockback

The 55 is an excellent knife, also look at the Case small caliber (most lowes stores carry em), and bear and son knives. SMKW is the only place I know that has carbon bear knives though :(

Doesn't Case offer a lockback knife too? I assume it's stainless though...
About the Opinel: they are very light and some users prefer their knife to be a bit heavier, but it's not bulky at all.
I might also recommend you a few Italian made small lockbacks, no idea if you could find them in the US though.
For example, Fox does make quite a few lockbacks that look nice in 440 steel, but I don't know if they sell them in the US too.

The Mini Copperlock is 3 5/8" - most of them are Tru Sharp but they did do a yellow-handled one (and possibly others) in CV.

The rough rider 1021 san mai lockback is a real winner. For about 20 bucks. The steel doesnt stain, but sharpens like 1095. I think its harder, but it gets that kind of edge.

Buck 501 is great, I really liked it. Now my ex has it :/ Have to buy another one...

Wow guys, thanks for all of the suggestions. Now I need to take the time to look these up. From what I've seen so far I'm still liking the Buck 55. Even though it's not carbon steel, I just lok the traditional look of it.... and it's a Buck

If you like Schrades, take a look at the LB3. Sweet little lock back at about 3" closed. Smaller version of their LB7, another very traditional looking lock back. But they only came in stainless. And they can be found on that website for a decent price. I just got a NIB USA made one for about $35. But for a few more dollars, you can probably find one with a sheath, or find a separate sheath if that interests you at all.

I'd look at an Al Mar for sure, if I were you. They come in several sizes, and a few different flavors. The blades are AUS8, but don't let that scare you: they're made by Moki for Al Mar, and they do a GREAT job on the heat treat.
Also, since we're going down this road, look into the ones made and branded by Moki. Again, several sizes, and a couple different shapes, with more handle variety than the Al Mars, and slightly "higher-end" steels.

Of the 30+ knives I own, I only have one lockback and one stainless. It's a Case small Copperlock in antique bone. I want to sell it but I can't. Something about how light it is and how it locks up and still appeals to my traditional vision of what a knife should be.

If a "small" lockback is your preference the Mini Copperlock is a nice choice.
This one features the Smooth Chestnut Bone scales, and a stainless blade.

I will heartily second the Silver Knight or the GEC #72 for lockbacks. In a traditional linerlock, the Queen #06 teardrop is great too.

You might want to look at the A.G. Russell 3" Lockback. They have several different versions. Titanium, Carbon Fiber, Chinese Quince, and Gold Lip Pearl. Prices range from $35-90. They do not have carbon blades, but the VG10 takes a great edge.

Case makes some very nice small lockbacks, including the copperlock. I dont think any of them come in carbon steel though.

If you don't mind haunting the great online auction site, the Schrade Old Timer 194OT is a very good pocket knife. Kind of a single lockblade trapper affair, great Schrade carbon steel.

Carl.

I second, third, and fourth that.

I also like Cheetah Cubs, but I seem to be in a minority on that.

Camillus made a very nice lockback. I carry one a lot. You can find them on the bay.

About two and half inches. Just a little under if I remember correctly. I'm at work so I don't have the little fella with me today.
I found one it is just under.

I have one of those Bökers, Fausto, in Washboard Bone scales.

Very good knife indeed, Böker carbon sharpens so well and the finish is good. A slim knife, but a little long.
