Small Pocketknife

I've been looking for a small knife to complement my ZT 0350, one that I can pull out in public and people won't think I'm a maniac. I am looking at Swiss Army Knives (Tinker), the Case Peanut, and various Schrade knives. Are there any other good knives in this catagory?

(Sorry for the mistake in the title, the text renders as a very light gray on a white background for me. If a mod could fix that, much thanks:))

Crown II by Kershaw.
Any of the small Buck knives (I like the Nobleman, myself).
A number of offerings by Spyderco.
A.G., Russell sells quite a wide variety of "polite" knives, and I'll also put in a vote for CRKT's Delegate.
Just a few alternatives to Case, if you don't want to give up your linerlock, pocket clip, and thumbstud.
Of course, Case makes a "modern" folder, with all of those features, too...

What about the Spyderco Dragonfly? I would prefer a slipjoint though, the Case Peanut is good and numerous SAKs would also fit the role. It's nice to have a screwdriver on you, that's why I carry my Leatherman in my coat.

Be careful with the Schrades. They went out of business in 2004 and were bought out by Taylor cutlery. All subsequent knives have been made overseas (which doesn't really matter in and of itself) and are of sub-par quality. If you're looking at Schrades, look for the pre-2004 USA made knives, as they are excellent.

Frosty

You can''t go wrong with the Case stuff and a good small case would be a Sodbuster Jr., well made and priced around $25.00.
My favorite small Schrades are the Muskrat series and if you can find one made in the U.S.A. before the factory closed it's doors, so much the better.

The Vic Tinker is a great choice that gives you some handy tool options--I carry mine every day in my LFP. I'd also recommend a small keychain SAK like the Classic SD or, even better, the Rambler. Traditional slippies are also very nice... classy-lookin' too. I also like the Spyderco Kiwi 3 or the Grasshopper for a more 'modern' style slip-joint (either will fit nicely in the watch pocket of your jeans.)

Good luck! :)

Any of the Victorinox offerings will do you well and of course offer various other tools (I just took delivery of a Fieldmaster and love it already), as well as being much more acceptable in the sheeple space. For small lightweight knives, look at some of Buck's offerings such as the 503 'Prince', or the 284/285 Bantam range.

I highly recommend a Case Swayback. They are available in a two blade Jack configuration or a single blade Gent.

GEC makes some great knives too. The #33 or #25 patterns might be a good fit for what you want.

I normally carry both a one-hander and a traditional. I'm partial to the stockman pattern because I find the different blade shapes useful for different types of cutting chores. I highly recommend the Buck 303 or the somewhat larger 301. I carried a 303 for better than 10 years on a daily basis and never had a cutting need I couldn't meet with it.

By the same token, I carried a Tinker for a number of years as my daily EDC. It is a very useful tool. If you do a bit of looking, you will find that they make both a regular Tinker and one a bit smaller.

Case still makes a good pocket knife. I find the peanut a bit too small for my taste, but YMMV. Fortunately, they make a whole bunch of designs.

The new knives labelled "Schrade" are now made in China and I have heard complaints as to their quality.

Good suggestions. I'll suggest the Spyderco Chapparal, my current favorite small knife. :)

I think the Tinker is your best bet here. There's something about Swiss Army knives that seems very non-threatening and innocent to the general public. Since that's a concern for you, and since you already have a more "serious" knife, I'd go with the Vic.
I should add that I keep a Tinker in my office bag for just this reason. It looks harmless and not insane to people who think knives are scary.

I would go with a SAK or a leatherman. People will be asking to borrow them often! Show those mice that knives are useful!
