Small possibles bag for your walking stick

I am thinking about a small possibles bag for my walking stick. Maybe something to tie to the stick, not necessarily hanging from the stick. Maybe a small firesteel, house key or car key, some paracord, whatever. What do you have on your sticks? I have a paracord loop on it, and a paracord wrap about a foot long, that member Jeepers from the Hoodlums made for me.

nothing yet ,I still looking for a good quality wooden walking stick....not a big fan of the modern day Aluminum walking sticks yet...

Too bad you don't live close by. The USFS and Boy Scouts did some trail improvements last summer. There are nice pieces of wild cherry, white oak, sassafras, and dogwood in abundance by the trails. I was leaving my walking stick at home so that I would have an excuse to get another but my girlfriend caught on.

Thanks, I am always on the look out for one on the trails, nothing yet has satisfied or come close for me...

Mine is a crawford survival staff and I threaded a firesteel into it, have a spy capsule of birch bark/fatwood and a PCB straw chunk in it. Should think of trimming down a key for it now.

The best part of having a walking stick is making it. When I don't whittle or make one, my favorite is an old bamboo crosscountry ski pole. No cost to mention at garage sales with a handle, basket, steel tip, lanyard and no weight. Wrap some paracord and 2 or 3ft lengths of ducttape in stages down to provide nonslip hand holds when going uphill etc.

I use a simple trekking pole I got on sale at REI years ago. I wouldn't attach anything to it. What you're describing should be on your person IMO.

I used to carry various found staffs but I prefer the lightweight trekking poles a lot more, especially as you can adjust the height for setting a tarp.

Dude - why tie a possibles bag when you can simply put the possibles IN the stick:

Heh heh...

to me it seems you could JB weld a C or D-cell Mag lite on your walking staff, remove the reflector assy. slide flashlight body over staff and epoxy into place.... range of colors and finds a Great use for that old mag-light in your closet, remove tail cap and stuff with some survival gear... Just an Idea ??

Mine is not as fancy as TF's, but it works similar... it's just a 48" oak rod with about 6" of steel pipe and a cap on the end. Epoxied and pinned to the staff. Stuck an eyebolt through the cap to put a lanyard. I wrapped the metal in plate-mounting foam and 550 cord to insulate from cold, nice grip etc. More 550 cord around the staff itself, naturally. Crutch tip on the end. If anyone's interested I'll snap a pic and post a how-to.

Why would you want the stuff attached to the stick instead of to your belt or your pack?
Just curious.

I was thinking the same thing...if you should lose your stick, you're in bad shape. However if you have another set of whatever you're going to attach to your stick already in your pack (i.e. metal match, whistle, etc.), I don't see anything wrong with having it on your stick as well.

We LOVE pics and how-tos around here. Snap away please.

I always wanted to put a camera mount on top, so I could use it to take steady pictures. But I am not really one to use walking sticks.
