Hey guys. Have a question about a small reg I just got.
So I was looking this little knife over and noticed the blade looked really
similar to the 21. This is my first regular so Im not too experienced first
hand with this blade. Can you guys tell me if this is in fact a reg blade or
if it looks to be a blade swap. I got this knife from a member here and from
my understanding it has had a few previous owners. No telling what history
this knife has. Someone did sand the scales a little to give it that
scothbrite look. Thanks for replys in advance.

If you can provide a pic with a closeup of the small blade, I'll try to help. But like I was saying about part-swapping.......

I would track down that seller. The best part of the Regulars is the blade shape and you got screwed on that.

Hmm... Thats pretty disapointing. I was so excited for a couple hours
yesterday anyway. I thought I got a great deal.
Would it be possible to get Chris to make a replacement blade? I know
this knife is discontinued but they still make the annual regs right?

I would need a closer look. to me it looks like a reg. I would need a close up. I looks like someone sharpened it tooooooooooooo much. I would take off the blade and do a close up pics to see better.

I'll upload some pics right now.

Well looks like the disappointments keep coming. That micarta in the picture I also just got yesterday from a member here. The lockup is defective. It's so early around 10%. I have to thwack it open to get to 30%. And I can shift the lockbar back and forth under the tang when locked open. It feels like there's tar on the surface of the lockbar. Very sticky.
I know I can get it fixed by CRK but Cmon. Where's the full disclosure. I payer a good amount for this knife and now I gotta send it to Chris . Talk about a good day turning to crap.

Now that I'm on a full-size monitor and not my phone, it is a little easier to distinguish the pictures. I think that might be a small regular blade and not a swapped 21/Classic. It would still be helpful to see some close-ups in better light, but in general the small regular blade style is not that different from the current model. On large models the difference is more pronounced.

You can always call the CR shop about replacing a regular blade. I think they probably will, but it may take a while due to lower volume.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I'm a bit confused though. How can you shift the lockbar from side to side if the lock itself is sticky? Just looking for clarification. Have you tried taking the knife apart yet. That sometimes seems to help.

Well, I may be mistaken but in my opinion that's an original small regular blade from around 2004-2005 (note the larger jimping on the blade). There is an ever so slight hump in the spine with no upsweep near the tip. In 2004, the Classic had more of an upsweep toward the tip than the current 21 blade. Of course we are talking fractions of a millimeter so the differences are minute. I wouldn't worry about it, but YMMV of course.

If it starts bothering you too much, PM me.

It's not hard to diengage at all but feels like there's honey on the lockbar. I can push the lockbar in to 80%. There's no vertical play at all. I'm not sure if its the heat treat
or if the angles of contacting parts is off. I've taken apart and relubed wit grease and
Thwaced it hard while screws were loose as suggested . I'm going to send it in and have Chris look at it because right now its really not safe. I'm lucky that when I found out when it disengaged my hand wasn't in the way.

Thanks for the clarification. Please update when you get it back from CRK.

HThanks for the help Dallas. It reassures me a little. It's something I should make sure I know because later down the line if I want to trade or sell it would be something I would have to disclose. And if it was a swap then is think the value would drop considerably.
I appreciate your help.

Steve nailed it, you are looking at a small regular blade. A for the micarta, you would be amazed at what a good cleaning can do for the knife.

On the micarta knife, try disassembling it and reassembling it. I once put one of mine back together and got a very similar situation, and I knew it had been 50+% before. Everything was smooth and great, other than the lockup. I took it apart (again) and put it back together (again) and the lockup went back to normal, not surprisingly. I'm not sure what I fouled up the first time, but it "fixed itself" when reassembled. Worth a try...

Yea I've cleaned it thoroughly and put together a few times. I tried rotating the stop sleeve but that didnt help. Chris will fix it up. I'm just annoyed seller didn't mention anything.
