Small Rubber Backing flat and round pieces for hand sanding?

Hengelo_77 - No worries. I use metal sanding sticks and wooden popsicle sticks some times. The Different hardnesses of the rubber allow you to get softer backing and harder backing than the wood. For sanding the handle area that is great because it will form to the area. It will also help on the blade when you are doing the final pulls to get all the grit scratches to follow the same direction ( for some reason I have a really hard time getting all the j-strokes out with my metal stick and need a softer material to get everything uniform at the last step).

I use files. Grind them down (surface grinder) so they're smooth and then attach gasket material to them. I like this because it's easy to handle, they last forever (I have some that are over 20 years old), and they're much more precise than blocks. Also, I find they work really ewll with the rolled abrasive which is easier and cheaper than sheets. They don't work for everything, but for basic metal work they're great. And they're really handy on the lathe or mill.

I have tried the files. It worked, but wasn't as comfortable as the metal blocks that I made.

Thanks guys. We will have to see what I can come up with.
