Small Sebenza for the office?

A large micarta inlay Insingo is my office knife. People are curious enough about the blade shape to not care that it's big. Being "blunt" on the end helps them too. Most are more curious than scared. Just an idea for you. I work with a lot of Non-knife folks and Insingo or damascus blades usually do the trick.

Carry the large, use it often. People will get used to it and there will be no further problems.
+1

I've carried a large 21 and an Umnumzaan in an office setting and even a Spyderco Military and BM 710. I like having the feeling of having MY knife, MY tool on me, the one that I so choose for the day and whatever I come across. But I pair it with a Leatherman Juice or Alox Cadet so that if the occasion calls for it, I'll use the smaller blade if I have to. As long as I'm following the local laws and workplace rules, if any, why are others allowed to dictate my happiness? Our actions speak the loudest.

Keep your 21 on you and the traditional in the same or opposite pocket. Then on breaks, close the blinds, dim the lights, and fondle away at your 21.

I know it's not what you asked man...but I used to carry a small 21 Insingo. Then I bought one of those giant iPhones. Have to keep it in my right pocket, 21 got moved to the left pocket along with everything else in my pockets.

I find that the Mnandi is not only much lighter, but when clipped to the inside of my left pocket it's easier to get my hand past it to the junk on the bottom. Doesn't feel like the knife is going to get accidentally drawn out (to hit the floor) when the junk is on the way out. Food for thought.

I carry a small unique graphic to the office and nobody has really noticed. It's the perfect size for anything I'd need and not too intimidating looking.

I carry my small damn near every day at the office. She's a beaut!! Looked for a long time to find this one! Do it!!

I'd say it kind of depends on what you will use it for. I wanted a smaller knife to carry at work, smaller than a small sebenza, I ended up getting a spyderco dragonfly 2, it's great for opening boxes and such, ergos are great for a small blade.. In my lunch bag I have an opinel #7,they cover my needs at work fine and are no threatening looking knives.

I have a small and large plain insingo, and a small micarta insingo.. They are my night time /weekend carry knives

I carry a small 21 and a mnandi, use both
though the mnandi see a bit more use on the job

I somewhat scared a female employee in an office galley by cutting open a plastic food pouch with a Sebenza 25. It may have been the authoritative thunk when it locked up. Okay, so I ordered a small Sebenza 21. Like it a lot, but then realized the Insingo blade is perfect for slicing up, cutting open, and not scaring fellow employees to the point of contacting security. I love the way it carves up a granny smith apple! I carry the small 21 Insingo every day now.

Any updates, OP?

Well, I took a hard look at my EDC choices. I really enjoy holding and using a large knife. My hand just falls into place. With that being said I also dislike carrying a heavy knife. The large Sebenza is heavier than I like but because it's titanium it's slim so it carries way better than most large knives I've had. I decided that I wanted to lighten up my load and give carrying the small a go for a while. I've had a small two times before. My first Sebenza was a small and I liked it but wanted to try a large. My 2nd small was an Insingo. The day I received it I didn't care for it. I received my new small today with a clip point and while it doesn't fill the hand quite like the large; I will adjust. I am really enjoying the reduction in weight as well. It's really noticeable.

When I first got a plain small, the first thing out of my mouth was, damn that's small and to be honest I didn't like the plain Ti. Kept it a week then flip it. Didn't even think about a small again for a couple years. Large was all I needed. Then they came out with the Tanked and I got the a large and loved it. Then I went into my LKS and there was a Small 21Tanked I picked it up opened it and that polished blade made me smile. I still thought it was small but beautiful,so it went home with me and i forced myself to carry only the small for two weeks. Best thing I ever did. The small is all I need for work. Of course my Large or Umnumzaan are always in my backpack. LOL
Just use it for a week and when you put the large back in your hand it will feel like a beast. Love CRK!!

I carry one of my Mnandis Monday through Thursday in my law office, but carry a Sebenza on jeans day.

Just curious, is there any reason you can't have both a small and a large for outside work? But why buy a knife that doesn't fit you or you've known in the past you weren't fond of? Since there is no "in between" Sebenza (not counting Ti-Lock though it's mid sized) maybe Sebenzas aren't for you? But I still feel like even if there was a mid sized Sebenza, it'd still be too large or aggressive looking for your workplace. If others' perceptions is the driving factor here, traditionals may be the only way for you to go since a Mnandi would really be too small for you based on what you've previously said.

I am biased but believe a Small 21 is a really good choice. My Small 21 Unique takes trips to my office quite frequently.
