small sebenza OR large sebenza?

I got a small classic Sebenza first, and that thing was awesome. I did eventually get rid of it, because it was just a tad to small for my hands. It has an awesome blade to handle ratio, but the price of that is that the handle is a little small for a sub 3" blade. I don't like it when I can only get three fingers firmly around the knife. My pinky was half on/half off the handle when using an actual cutting grip.

I am not knocking the knife at all though, it was awesome, and I carried it for 6 month despite it not matching my desires perfectly. I have since traded it away, but there is definitely going to be a large Seb in my future, since that will prolly fit my desired ergonomics more, but still give me that awesome Seb feel.

If you don't have large hands though, the Small Seb is an excellent choice, its amazing how much awesome he packed into that lil knife lol. It carries really well in the pocket too, I could take that thing anywhere it was legal too without any issues.

A bunch of years ago I went nuts trying to figure this out too. I decided on the small - which'll do just about everything PLUS I was working (Education) and it never raised a comment there. However, since then I purchased a large and that's the one I carry. There's a distinct difference - I'd say (if this makes sense) the "large" isn't as 'large' as the "small" is 'small.' Re. the thumb stud, you'll only use one.

I like my Large 21. I think the size is perfect but many others like the small also so it's up to you.

I've owned both.

When I worked outdoors I preferred the Large.

Now that I work indoors I prefer the Small.

If you think you can get by the sheeple, the large is everything the small is PLUS. I don't know very many knife people at all that like the small version of anything better than the large version. Just my observation, but it's true. The more 'into' knives you get, the more you appreciate the big ones. They are simply more befitting 'knife guys'.

Some more observations. When both are closed, the small looks really small.. almost too small, but... this is awesome in the pocket because it's almost invivible. But once bring the blade out and lock it open you are pleasantly surprised with a very nice sized blade, more then you thought it would be, it always brings a smile to my face. And then you put it into your hands and find that it fits perfectly into your hands. The contours of the handles are awesome. I have medium sized hands and it feels great, the large does fill the hands more, but to tell the truth it doesn't "feel" better, just larger. I think both of them feel the same, but different, if that makes sense. One is no better then the other, nor worst. They are both awesome.

The only thing about the large sebenza in the office is that the blade is really wide! So, when you pop the blade out there is a lot of metal showing. You can see that compared to my earlier pic vs the benchmade 710. Even though the 710 is longer, the blade is thinner. I am not knocking the large at all, this is just my view of it. It really all depends on where you are and what the situation is when you use the knife the most. I take if you work in construction, outdoors type jobs, a forest ranger... ect.. I would prefer the large, just because it has a little more blade, not because of the way it feels in my hand. But because I work in the office I personally think the large is too large to be cutting up boxes, string off your clothes, your lunch, etc.. the small will do these tasks as well as the large and not bring the attention of other people. Also, the blade is very elegant and does not have an agressive look to it. I remember I once took out a spyderco native (shorter blade then the small sebenza) and I remember the looks of some people, they had that.. (why do you need a knife like that) look. Well, even though the native is smaller, cutting edge wise, it is very aggresive looking. Let us know what you get..

I went through the same decision making process and ended up with a small with single thumbstud. The size is very practical for EDC. I never felt the need for a larger knife. Also, I think the proportions are more pleasing to the eye on the small Sebenza.

I got an Umnun 1st....edc it for most of 3 months. I got a couple of lg. after

that. My hand is too big for a small. I like the Umnun Much Better than the

large seb.

Get the large with dual thumbstuds. The large Seb is not all that large compared to other large folders like the Spyderco Military.

Ive owned two large, and sold them and just bought a small reg, and its perfect.

What kind of knife do you normally carry? Take that into consideration. While the Small Sebbie is quite small closed, it's got a very good cutting edge length. The blade:handle ratio is about at close to a 1:1 that you can get.

For me 3-3.5 inches blade is all I ever carry, and 3 is actually just perfect for my EDC. Buy one closer to the knives you normally carry and you will find you carry your sebenza more often.

And that is the only way to truly appreciate the knife.

The more 'into' knives you get, the more you appreciate the big ones. They are simply more befitting 'knife guys'.

Everyone has their own opinion of what works, but I've had plenty of knives in various sizes and have never felt "under-knifed" with my Sm Seb. It never dawned on me that I wasn't " knife-guy" enough...
