Small & Sharp

Because of my mistake I actually went upstairs and measured his current POS pocketknife. It is a hair under 4 inches closed so something comparable would be best.

Also, don't worry about it looking traditional. It doesn't have to be made of bone and twigs. That being said, the nylon spyderco uses on many of their knives just doesn't feel or look very high quality (I know it is sturdy ass hell though).

Instead I am most interesting in it having sg2, zdp or another very hard steel (harder than) vg 10. He will use this knife as a very light duty EDC for 9 months to a year before I come back and sharpen it for him! Thus, I want it to have the best edge retention possible and be very sharp out of the box.

Refined Criteria
3.5-4.5 inches closed
Very hard steel (sg2, zdp, or comparable)
No Nylon / Plastic
Maybe assisted opening for his fat old fingers :)

Ok Spyderco Chaparral.

I thought you were talking about closed length, but i went with the flow at first
How much are you trying to spend?

i really like the look of this thing, it looks tough and swift, and its a colab with a great custom maker, jens anso the Boker Haddock - made in "cobalt N690BO steel is 5mm thick and features a precise hollow grind that is razor sharp and perfectly balanced".. its upwards of $150 though...

Less than $200. It doesn't need to have a fancy pattern or anything. I'd rather it just be so sharp that it cuts him when opening the box.
