Hey Guys...

Y'all know that TJ don't know nothing 'bout knives.... 'cepting that I have lots of them.

One of my favorite female co-workers/friends is having a birthday coming up. I would like to get her a small slippie, although I suppose a knife with a liner lock would work.

And.... it's a "girl" thing - but I want to get her a knife in her favorite color. Stop laughing already, okay?!?!?

Her favorite color is "teal/bright blue/with a bit of green/aqua." Sheesh. How in the world will I ever find a small slippie in that color? Case has some in "sky blue" which I think is pretty close to the color I am looking for, but the few that I found in a brief online search were more than I wanted to spend - $100+.

I'd prefer to spend less than $75, and less than $50 would be even better. Okay, it would be best - we're not THAT good of friends!

The fewer blades the better, probably no more than 2. And 3" or less closed.

Any suggestions? Am I way out of the ballpark in what I am trying to find? Obviously, she will be happy with anything I give her, regardless of color. I've even thought of a small SAK.

Hey, I like purple knives, so I guess I shouldn't laugh at the fact I am trying to find a knife that is:

teal/bright blue/with a bit of green/aqua

Fine, you just keep on giggling. I'll put a hex on your football team if you do. Or your NASCAR driver. :D

Have you taken a look at any of the Rough Rider blue pearl knives? If you don't mind that they're made in China, they make wonderful gifts. Here's a picture of one of their mini toothpicks, taken from smkw.com. It's three inches overall, so the blade would be a little smaller than that.

Prior to posting my thread, I had only looked at Case. I'll check out Rough Rider.

I looked on ebay, searching for blue knives (oh, hush). I found a knife by Steel Warrior, which I had never heard of, and of course some by Frost Cutlery. My first knife was a gift - a Frost Cutlery knife - and it always held an edge for me. And I wasn't going to look a gift-knife in the mouth!

CASE make Mini Trappers with a Wharncliffe blade in some ODD colours...there's an Emerald Green one that I have(but it's much more Jade green) and they do one in a very light blue and Periwinkle blue. Also comes as a Tiny trapper and that's a mite.Could be along the lines of what you are looking for. GEC does a single blade Barlow in light blue bone too. Then there's Abalone...but that's a costly proposal.

Sooner State Knives has a good selection of Case knives in quite a few different handle materials. You could also take a look at Collector Knives. They carry some less common brands that come in different handle colors. I haven't been paying much attention to the Great Eastern companies and what handle materials they have been coming out with, but it might be worth taking a look at the various sites that sell them.

Good luck.

I think the biggest thing is ease of opening. SAKs are good. How about these Swedish knives in Sandvik stainless. The quality is well, Swedish. I do believe that they are slipjoints. For 12 bux a pop, it will be alright if you guys have a fall out. :p

God Bless

Nice.... but I am looking for a little more "pizzaz!" Picky, aren't I?

Here are two knives that I found and I think the color is just about as close as I am going to get. One is a Steel Warrior and the other Frost Cutlery.

I have no idea what this Rockwell tested thing is.

She won't know the difference, most likely. But I would like to know that the knife that I give her isn't just a piece of crap knife. Borderline crap and non-collectible is just fine. I don't want a $5.99 junk knife I can buy at the Dollar Store. Wait. Couldn't I buy that knife for $1?

So the above photos show the colors that I think are close to what she likes.
I don't want this to be a month-long decision. Something decent that she can use, and that will hold an edge long enough to be useful, and can survive to be sharpened with a good edge again.

I apologize for not knowing more about knives and steel, and patterns, etc. I'm at BFC for the friendships and occasionally add a sweet (hopefully purple) knife to my collection. Including, of course, an occasional BFC annual knife.
