I've been carrying a kershaw scallion every day for years, and it's time to switch it up. I bought my girlfriend an orange handle ladybug the other week (first spyderco knife I ever purchased), and now I'm all jealous.

I've been looking at:
- another ladybug as a possibility
- SS dragonfly
- plain edge ss cricket, a little on the $$$ side but like the torx construction

what else is there? few remaining co-pilots? not wild about the spin...

delica is pushing it size-wise... I've long desired one but now just can't imagine carrying one daily.

any advice appreciated,
thanks

Sage is a 3-incher. But since you say the Cricket is getting expensive, this probably won't do...

There's the Poliwog, although it is also more expensive...

This one is a bit cheaper, the "S;" it's a strange design, though:

You mentioned pretty much everything else. Maybe you could find a Salsa or Lava or Jester.

Here's a Salsa: http://www.newgraham.com/detail.aspx?ID=3835

Lava: http://www.newgraham.com/detail.aspx?ID=6184

Can't find a Jester.

The Dragonfly is a very good little knife.

The basic FRN version comes with AUS8 blade steel, which may be fine for your purposes.
AUS8 takes a very sharp edge but needs regular touching up to keep that edge.

If you want a slightly heftier knife with better blade steel, you can get the Dragonfly in stainless, or etched stainless.

Both are made with VG-10 steel blades.

The basic FRN version at 1.2 ounces is a very easy carry.
The others weigh slightly more.

I was going to say a Delica 4, which is really not that large size wise. It's an excellent value.

If size is a primary concern, check out the Dragonfly. They are available in SS or FRN scales.

Yeah, the Lava is a "real" knife, very sturdy, and will still fit easily in the 5th pocket of a pair of jeans.

I also like the latest generation Ladybug. Very nice.

But for long-term usage, consider the Lava.

Go the Lava ! I am a big fan and have a few of them. I also got a couple customised by Tricod :)

In addition I would like to add that I carry almost everywhere my black FRN Ladybug SE on my belt (on a Maxpedition Keyper). A Kopa also goes along for the ride in almost all situations.

Personally I think the Calypso 3 / UK Pen Knife is the best design for EDC. It's more expensive that the others you listed but well worth it.

The Navigator and Salsa are two others to consider.

The lava is nice; I like CLB's designs, but his spydie sells for $100+ up here. Quite a leap from a $30 ladybug. The blade length, however, is more within my ideal range. I'd say over 2.5" is out of the running.

I'm partial to the Cricket myself. I have 2; serrated & non-serrated.
I carry them in the small change pocket jeans have.

Dan,
I never was Lava fan, but you are killing me with your customs. :o

boro,
Out of your list I would choose Dragonfly, preferably with VG10 blade, but if you can spent around $90, I would go with Vivi recomendation and get Caly3 or UKPK. They are around $100 @ dealers, around $80 on the auction, but you will never regret if you get one. I carry my G10 Caly3 for two years, bought many knives after that, but nothing can kick Caly3 out of my pocket.:thumbup::thumbup:
It goes with me even to gym for workout:D
UKPK and Caly3 basically the same knife, with major difference that UKPK doesn't have a lock, but it is fairly safe. I love my orange UKPK

in my experience, the dragonfly is a fair bit heavier than the SS Cricket (my personal fav for small and light carry). If that's an issue, go for the Cricket. That said, I found the Dragonfly very comfortable for long-term cutting.

If you can get one, the best ergos would be a SS Navigator II, though it felt even heavier than the SS Dragonfly.

For a small EDC, I'd say a Ladybug, Navigator II, Lava, & Dragonfly are probably the best of the lot. I personally liked the ergos on the Navigator better than the Lava. The Ladybug is just a great "anytime" knife regardless of whatever else you have. It's so small & light that you can just throw it in your pocket & forget about it until you need it, of course.
