Small Spydies. Which one, and why?

It is cool to see everyone's small Spydies! However, other than in places where a larger than 2" knife is illegal, I have never understood the rationale for carrying a tiny knife. To me, this becomes especially baffling when I consider that everyone here usually carries a regular size knife (3" or more). I am not trying to hijack this thread, but I would be interested to learn how / when you use these tiny (but very cool) knives, and why you choose to use them in place of your other, and presumably larger, EDC.

FWIW, my current EDC rotation consists of Benchmade 527 and a VG10 Saber Delica 4.

I guess if it fits your lifestyle and/or wardrobe the larger knives are the way to go. For nearly all my knife needs a Cricket or Meerkat works just fine, doesn't tear up my pants or make them sag and allows me to reach in for my keys or change without fear of G10 burn. That all being said I'm a knife guy and will often have my Native 5 or small Sebenza with me as well. As for larger knives, one of my Militaries or Police or, in extreme cases, my Civilian rides along when hitting the trails on my bike.

The Dragonfly Salt is a favorite; why you ask, well...they're just cute as a button; that, and I really like the aesthetics of this particular blade, hollow/sabre ground, H1 "stain free", and simply the little knife that does more than can, or will...it does, and in a big way.

I'll second the Dragonfly Salt. Not only will it not rust out on you, it's also about as close to weightless as you can find, is pretty easy to resharpen and somehow feels bigger in the hand than it does in the pocket.

My Persistence, with its under 3 inch blade and G10 scales has been my suit knife for the last month. Love it, but I'm also liking the Cat. Might pick on up soon, who knows.

I just got a Persistence. I like the knife, but it seems awfully big and heavy compared to those I like to carry on a regular basis: Ambitious, Dragonfly, (Byrd) Robin 2, Cat. I was surprised in my reaction to the persistence, as it looked on paper like the perfect size....but it's roughly 50% heavier than the other knives, and the blade is about 10 mm longer. I must prefer blades around 60 mm, and weight close to 50 g. IMHO, if the Robin 2 were a liner-lock, it'd be a perfect knife under $35. I just find it harder to open one handed than the Spyderco knives.

I feel like the Ambitious and Persistence are too chunky given the blade length. I'm not saying the Tenacious ergos don't shrink well, just that I would choose a slimmer offering in those size classes.

Yes, my Salt 1 is quickly becoming my favorite knife. I like its light weight and blade and handle size. I do like the looks of the Ambitious and Persistence I own. I do like the Ambitious also, but I find the Salt 1 just seems to work out better for EDC. The Tenacious seems like it's too large for me, but I may try one of those as well. Price is certainly good! Might be a good knife to just leave in the truck as a spare.

Yes, I like the Dragonfly Salt, but probably my Salt 1 better. It's a bit larger, but I believe it qualifies as a "small knife"?
