Something that is light, has a pocket clip, straight edge (no serrations) and a blade length of less than 3 inches would be great. I like my Spyderco Paramilitary but am looking at other knives just to see what is about.

Benchmade Mini-grip is a great choice for someone looking to stay under 3 inches. That is exactly why I carry it and could not be happier with it. The lock is super strong and the movement, both opening and closing, is silky smooth.

Another one is the Bradley Alias II. You can find it for just about $150 if you do a google search.

small Buck STRIDER, ATS 34, BOS heat treated, thick blade,

extremly good knife.....less then $ 100

Great suggestions, just keep in mind the OP's Locality (and the terrible exchange rate conversion we're currently getting)

Hmm definitely some good knives to consider - thanks for the suggestions. Happy to hear some more suggestions too!

Al Mar Mini Sere or Nomad. Both have very strong lock up, vg-10 blade, G-10 handles. Both are under $150, and are worth every penny.

Check out the Boker Hyper. Slightly larger cousin to the Subcom, but still under 3". It's so thin I keep forgetting it's there when I take my pants off.

Emerson mini CQC 7 I think is less than 3 inches if your a fan of Tanto points, I don't have one but own 2 Emersons and love my Mini Commander.

AG Russell Folding Sting or Folding Spear Point $145.00 and $99.00 respectively. Fantastic lightweight tacticals.

Hrm. 'Tactical' isn't usually a description given to small knives, unless it's a black serrated tanto. ;-)

Since you ruled out serrations and I get the feeling you're not looking for a tanto, I'm afraid that leaves me a little bit in the dark as to what you're looking for, from a 'style' perspective. Can you provide any more details as to what you're wanting in a knife? Especially from a style perspective? Lots of belly? Or a fairly straight edge with little curve to it? Drop point? Clip point? Any preference on lock style?

+1 on the para. That's the ideal knife for you right there. Can be had for under $150.

- Black or plain coloured blade
- Clip point or drop point but not spear point or tanto
- Flat ground or hollow ground
- FRN or G10 handle
- Not fussed about whether it has a lot of belly or not
- Something that makes full use of the handle length for a decent length blade (as in not something like the Snubby)
- Open to locking mechanism
- Ability to be opened with one hand
- Preferably not made in Asia (with the exception of Japan)
