Hey everybody, I'd like to solicit your recommendations for a small folder, 2.5" to 3" blade, but on the thick side maybe 1/16 - 1/8".
In other words I'l like a blade that won't crack or break with moderate to heavy work and outdoor use.
Thanks!

Actually, 1/16" to 1/8" thick blade stock isn't considered that thick by most of us. Speaking for my self anyway. I'm not sure what your price range is but the Benchmade MPR can still be found, the HEST/F folder can fall into your category with some slight length flexibility, the Spyderco SuperLeaf has thick blade stock too. These are all thicker than 1/8"

If 1/16 to 1/8" is all you need though, there are tons of choices out there. Look at some of Kershaw's offerings. The Spyderco Sage series is always a good choice too.

And just as important, you should give an idea of how much you want to spend.

There are all kinds of knives that fit your specification that range all the way from just usable to excellent.

Don't just look at the blade. The pivot is important too. A thick strong blade with a weak pivot is a waste of blade steel.

Check out the Bucklites. They're one of the best bangs for the Buck around (sorry, that just slipped out...): light, ultra tough, affordable.

I've got $50.00 to spend. As far as thickness, most of my current blades are I'd say 1.5 to 2mm thick. So Reeek I'm going to be OK with a nice thick 1/8" blade. But not just along the spine. I want a strong tip as well. I hope this helps clarify. Now let the recommendations come pouring in! :)

Thanks. Yes I'm looking at these as well as the Bantam series. Can you add any insights to these two compared

how about emersons, such as the micro commander, mini 7 or mini a-100?
all are about 3 inch blade, with 1/4 inch pivots.
blade thickness is 1/8 inch, with thick tips.

ive been carrying a mini a-100, and im happy with it.
compact size, useful blade shape. its not the best slicer, but it gets the job done.

I sharpened a Kershaw #1830 Oso Sweet folder for a friend. It has a 3" blade with a pretty thick tip and seemed like a good budget knife, under $30 new online. It is a manual flipper with decent Chinese steel. Spyderco knives tend to have more distal taper, meaning thinner at the tip than many other knives.

Thanks Flash Owl for these recommendations. I've been looking at the CQC-14 stubby for a while; kind of expensive for me but I will research these other pieces.

I had one of these. I consider it dangerous as it opened in my pocket while sitting down in my vehicle. This knife really needs a safety. The flipper is just too easy to deploy the blade.

Try the boker trance. Its 2.75in blade (AUS8), thin knife, but with a pretty tough tip. I'm not sure on the width of the blade, but I seem to remember hearing it was 1/10", which is in your range and it should hold up just fine to most things.

I think it would fit most of your needs pretty well.

You also might look at the spyderco Persistence, its also a 2.75in blade that is 1/8" thick.

Good luck :).

Thanks! much appreciated.

Get a Grayman Dua. Above your budget but you ll never have to buy another knife again!!

For $55 you could get a buck vantage pro. Slightly over 3". Not sure how thick the blade is but it is thicker than most in its size. Bos treated S30v steel, g10 handles and a rock solid liner lock. Mine has no blade play at all and believe me, I check hard.

There are a lot of very favorable reviews on this blade. No doubt priced right for S30V. Thanks, it's now definitely on my short list

They also make a small Vantage Pro with a 2.5in blade if you're interested in the Vantage. You probably knew that, but I'm just throwing that out there.
