Small Ti EDC

Hi everyone,

I've had the pleasure of owning a large CRK Seb 21, a Zaan. I really liked both knives. They were too big for EDC use for me. Attracted too many looks and unwanted attention.

I currently EDC a blacked out full serrated Spyderco Native S30V. It is definitely abused daily and still performs flawlessly. I only pull it out when no one is around or while working.

I'm looking for a knife to EDC, i think I'd like the small Seb but i want at least partially serrated blade with titanium handles.
If i bought a used small Seb, is there a member here that can serrate(?) the blade?

The knife will be used primarily for opening mail, food prep, cutting bread, cutting ropes and opening mail, boxes. Needs to be office friendly.

It has to be made in USA, Canada or Europe.
Budget: <400$ all in.

Have you considered a Bradley Alias II? The materials are nearly identical, titanium and S30V (vs S35V for the CRK), the dimensions are nearly the same and you can pick one up for about 40-50% the cost of a small sebenza. Bradley also makes models with factory serrations. Quality is very high and they have a good reputation. I bought one a few months ago and it has literally kicked everything else out of my EDC rotation, I could not be happier with this knife. Since its less than half the cost of a sebenza I don't feel too bad about putting it through hard use or worry about losing it/lending it out. Bottom line, the Alias is a cheaper slightly less fancy alternative to a sebenza and you can get it with factory serrations.

I agree with the Bradley Alias II. I have it and carry it with me on a regular basis. It is a great knife.

Alias II was my first thought as well, though to be fair it's the only small, titanium-handled, partially serrated, Western-made knife I know of. Very happy with mine, but a couple things to bear in mind: It's not the best slicer in the world; and don't expect the same kind of consistent perfection that you would get with a CRK. It still may make the most sense to seek out someone who can put serrations on a small Sebenza.

There also the A. G. Russell™ Acies2 Framelock to consider.

But if you are patience, can find a used small seb already with serrated be perfect.
Sebbie with serrated edge usually goes slow on used market.

I know there is an online dealer that has a small micarta serrated for sale brand new. Forgot which it was but it is one of the dealers that supports the forum. If you can live without the sebenza i highly recommend the Acies2. Carries extremely well and zdp is the poo.

If you get a small sebenza you can send it to Tom Veff and he will put Veff Serrations on it. veffsharpening.com

I have no business interests with Tom, I just know him because he's sharpened some of my knives and I plan on getting some Veff Serrations on my SOG navy seal.

Perhaps a CRK Mnandi would be worth considering, especially since you're willing to have the blade serrated. They're beautiful, non-threatening looking and perfect for an office environment; plus, it's CRK quality at a cheaper price than the Sebbie.

I was going to say the Spyderco Sage 2, Leafstorm, Techno, or if you can live without a Frame Lock, the new Titanium Chaparral. They're all under $200 and you could have serrations added.

I just ordered an Alias II BLUE for less than $200. I'm happy about it. I have an Alias I and CRK's and both brands are very good, IMO.

I would just get the Small Sebenza with a combo edge. It runs $375 and the dealer I usually go to has 3 in stock. Just search "sebenza combo edge" and you'll find them. The CRK serrations are supposed to be some of the best, so I wouldn't try to modify a plain edge and void the warranty.

Why not order a custom? If you are willing to spend 400 you can get exactly what you want!

Again, you taking the time to answer me is much appreciated.

I picked up a regular small Sebenza for a good price. I'll consider getting a serrated blade for it if this doesn't cut it, pun intended.

The blades on the sebenzas are matched so perfectly with the frames, that some folks have had trouble with blade replacements without sending them in to CRK. Just a reminder that if you really want the functionality of serrations on part of the blade, you can sharpen that portion of the edge with a courser stone to create "micro" serrations. You won't see them as such, but using a course to medium stone will make for a grippy bite instead of the slicing blade of a finely polished edge.
Enjoy that small regular!

Spyderco Techno is a great small Ti EDC with great steel and a discreet deep carry clip all in a little tank of a knife.

Sebenzas are great and I am sure you will enjoy it.
