I have owned two small Sebenza 21's and the Techno. The Techno holds its own and even exceeds the quality control, fit and finish, durability, feel in hand, emotional response elicited when using the knife and rock solid feel of the Sebenza.
The small plain Sebbie is a hard act to follow. I find myself carrying my Benchmade 480-1 Shoki in m390 steel and carbon fiber scales over Ti liners with a pb 'Nak-Loc' liner lock more often - in it's leather spocket sheath. You mentioned openning mail twice - so I assume it's more important than cutting rope. I'd think cutting rope with a knife this size - or even a small plain Sebbie - would be less than ideal, even with serrations. They cut window sash size rope (Big twine!) well enough as-is. Here it, and my plain S35VN bladed small Sebbie, are along with my 'zaan, for size comparison:
MSRP is $220 - but actual cost is often less. Beautiful knife. Not a Sebbie, strength wise, but a fine knife. You could have two of them and a nice lunch for what a small Sebbie runs. I know - not full Ti - and neither are serrated.
I reco the Bradley Alias II(made in collab with BenchMade), the Sage2 titanium, the Chaparral in titanium or the small Sebbie.
You can get these knives in lighter handles if you're wanting less weight. I have/had all of these folders. The Alias II and the Chaparral are lighter-duty than the other two. The Chap is a baby Sage. The Seb can hold its own, however.
