The Yellowjacket. For the role similar to a neck knife
Specs are 3 inch blade, 7 inches overall. 1/8th inch thick. Not sure on hardness but harder than 60 from experience sharpening for 10 years with the same type of stone. One inch wide.
Hey guys, i can quickly make an effective knife with a leather sheath and a nice finish for a low price.
I got a bunch of planer blades from a mill i wokred at and the brand rep told me theyre made of high carbon high chromium, which means D series tool steel. I found D7 stamped on one so im going to say thats what they are. They hold an edge well and can take some good wacks with a 3lb mallet sideways in the vice without dying and i havnt had rust problems with regular use.
Due to the high amount of bite and rediculous sharpness im chisel grinding these edc beasts but if you prefere a v grind we can work something out.
I have Camo, pink, silver, blue/white/black paracord right now and im wrapping them. If you like the look but want some things changed just let me know whats right for you!
I have a few different point styles i will try out, tanto, drop point, sheepsfoot, ect.
these average about a four inch long one inch wide blade thats about 3/16ths thick
thanks for your support and let me know what you think.

Heres how theyre made...
I stock remove these from D7 planer blades.

Heres a rough grind after its been cut out

Sanded

Some other angles

Then i chem etch the blades with GSK (Good Shepherd knives) and Made in USA

I did some testing and thought id share. I hade a pile of muddy cardboard thats double layered. My friend dubbed it satanboard because its so mean to knives.
I used the buffing wheel to get the tape off and straighten the edge a little. It wouldnt shave for the first inch i used the most but the rest still did.

So i sheared through a piece of 1/8th steel pin stock. its not hard really but still a tough test imho. Its still stuck to the aluminum i glued to the vice

Thanks Zknife knife steel composition chart app

This ones blade is 3 inches but they still look ok up to 5, up to you these are my design but still custom since it comes from scratch. like a hand made pizza theres no reason it cant be made to your specs within reason

Have you made any of these drop points with a normal V-grind instead of the chisel grind? If so, please post a picture of one.
Thank you.

I Sadly Have Not Been Able To Drill It But Have Good Luck With AdhesivesWhat Handle U Thinking of

I was thinking micarta or other synthetic since it's going to get a lot of citrus/booze on it as a matter of daily life, probably dark grey or dark red to be fairly inconspicuous.

How would added scales affect pricing?

I havnt recently but i could try one. with the V grind, a scale handle, and a sheath i could do it for about $125. this stuff is abrasion resistant and takes time. if i get one made today ill send a picture. with a knife this small im not sure why the chisel grind wouldnt work, it cuts cardboard and whittles just fine. i grind them so the bite side is away from you so whatever youre cutting away from yourself it has a great ability to cut as it.

Ok, its not toally stainless but that shouldnt be too bad if its rinsed off in my experience. I have some G10 and micarta in black lying around. Id like $75 for one. im experimenting with a bamboo handle right now, its drying
