Randy, it's dyed stag that Joel picked through personally up at Culpepper's in Otto, NC. I'd day he done good. :D:thumbup:

I have the 44036, and I will second the good review. I have had mine since the late 80's.

Who makes/made 'em and what's your fave?

I have a GEC "mini" I like but it's just a hair too big for me to EDC.
 
Case makes a number of traditional lockback knives in various sizes and handle material -- all beautiful and well priced.

Queen put out a small lockback for about $45
I have not seen it personally

Nate, Bill's and mine may be a tad over your 3.5" limit (by a quarter inch) but at least they give you some food for thought.
