Small traps ?ideas?... dead fall is it good??? also small selters???

i have another post saying (where r good places to go in califor backpacking) but now i need some ideas on how i will get my food with a knife and a pack on matches only so ples tell me some ideas on how to make traps my some links to sites with trap plans or something also, my selter is always the sucky one it figures but what r some good ways to make a shelter thanx for reading.
