Small vs. Large Sebenza - Wich one ?

Needle, the siding is GREAT, very tactile feeling to it and the wood is narrow enough that there shouldn't be a problem with it ever moving, plus being inset certainly helps. And thanks, that Fob is something I recently designed and it's working out extremely well, the leather goes through the wooden bead and then goes back around and through a second time, which makes it self locking! Outstanding for pulling the knife from the sheath or pocket!

Sorry Trane, let me rephrase..."it is more > than the other style" ;)

Oh, and another thing. Think about how much faster you'll need to replace the small! You might as well get the large just so you can get more fresh edges out of it, because we all KNOW that Sebenza factory edges go very fast becuase I'm sure nobody would be afraid to use a $300 knife rather than make it a safety queen. :)

Thanks guys,

I'm almost decided for the small, just because I always cary another big one, like Millie, Chinook, 086D2, 805, SERE2K, etc.

What I didn't get is the differences between the classic and regular. I saw the pictures on www.chrisreeve.com. Are the differences only aesthetics ?

I'm checking with Mike @ bestknives.com for availability.

Thanx again !

Yes, the materials used are the same. The blade on the classic is a bit more pointier.

Here is a scan of mine, love it! The larger blade allows you to cut a little deeper and not get junk into the pivot area, talking about fruits/sandwiches and the like, used mine today for a grapefruit, sliced through easily of course ;) but it also had the length needed to do the job with out messing about!

I prefer the regular because it has a less pointy corner on the butt. The edge is still plenty pointy. However, the finger cutout on the classic is really nice.

Both of my sebs are regulars.

Both models are great. I guess I'd recommend a small regular, since it's easier to carry. But if you're going to be working a lot with your Sebenza, you might be better off with a large. With regard to the regular / classic question, I use a large classic for hiking and camping (where I find the pointier tip to be more useful) and a large regular for more day - to - day kinds of chores.

I have both and I like the small regular. It feels better in my hand when I grip hard. I also think it looks better. I hate the way the extra large thumb release cutout on the classic looks. On the small models the blade differences are pretty minor. The classic on the other hand, feels more secure.

Thanks Patrick, it just came about all at once when I was trying to some how work that bead into play, and it's very handy!

Reading down through, it seems split on Regular verses Classic, one thing that has always impressed me was the Classic was what Chris Reeve started out with and in the end, he brought it back! by popular demand, hard to improve on what was an excellent idea ;) But as they say, every knife isn't for everyone, otherwise it would be a very boring world with only one style of knife :) So I wish you the best on your decision and go from what your instincts tell you when you compare the knives, which one seems to draw your attention the most, as either style will work, it now boils down to what you like!...of course!

For me it will depend what i want to do with it. If its for collection i will get the big one since not much differnce in price. But if i intend to carry it every day EDC i will choose a smaller one. This is because due to the general public phobia towards knives. Although bigger will be more usefull and do not add alot of weight, the thing is when people see you with a big knife you might get some unwanted reaction from them. Even without restrictions on blade size you still can get in to trouble. In my country you cannot carry anything with a cutting edge with more than 3inch. So i carry small fixed blade with 3inch blade. One day when i was in a pub for new year eve a fight break out and the police came. When the police came in i was using my knife to open a bottle of liquor and the police man ask me to hand over my knife. I did what he said of course not wanting even it is legal to carry a 3 inch blade but not wanting to get in to trouble. My point is it will be a big lost if a expensive knife was taken away from you like that. By getting a smaller one it is less likely to be taken away. And from investment point of view it will be more worth it since you can use it in more place and condition, it will be pointless to invest so much money in a tool that you have lot of restriction on where and when you can use it. I use to be large fixed blade kind of guy and spend most of my money on large fixed blade only to find them in my home most of the time. So now i invest more on multitool since it is ilegal to carry more than 3inch and a multitool is less likely to get in to any trouble.
